And one of mine.

Except I've re-jigged that area to suit current circumstances, and somehow ended up knocking 10 minutes off the overall time! (In theory, at least.)

When you find a good route, wait - look for a better one.

I think I've found something that would be useful. Hopefully

When you arrive at an end-of-line station like Cockfosters, High Barnet or Edgware, I always find it a bit difficult to work out which train is going first. Usually there aren't any arrows lighting up to tell you, and it isn't always obvious from just looking at what's going on. Also, you often see people getting on two trains, which makes it even more confusing. Does anyone have any tips?

Check Departure Boards at TFL website - also AFAIK most of these stations have digital departure boards, at least High Barnet/Edgware do

And at least 2 of these are known to be very unreliable! (Uxbridge and Morden.)

Thanks for the replies. On another subject, does anyone have a rough idea of how much extra time the new "Kennington to Battersea Power Station and back again" route might take? I was thinking 15 minutes to begin with, but maybe that's a touch pessimistic and it could be done a little faster.

I cant see it taking more than 5 mins each direction. One issue may be initially its a once very 12 mins service so turnaround times may either be very quick or long. (assuming you wish to double back).

I had the idea of getting a bus from Vauxhall to Nine Elms then running/walking to Battersea Power Station - I'm told it's not very far.

As far as I can see at the moment, it would be far quicker to double back on the tube line, because walking/running or taking a bus is going to take much longer. But we'll have to see once it actually opens.

This isn't good news for tube challengers:

"London commuters warned that budget black hole risks a return to 1970s on the Tube
Public transport in the capital risks becoming more expensive and less reliable if Transport for London's funding gap is not resolved" (£)

Based on a couple of early morning journeys, it took about six minutes one way. Double that and add the turnaround time. Add a few mins in rush hour

Something that would be very useful for people doing the Tube Challenge would be if tube stations had drinking water fountains or water dispensers, particularly if they were on the platforms rather than in the entrance areas.
