Tube Olympics 2021?

Post by EastActionWoman »

Hoping to have a conversation where we don't mention the C-word, government or masks. I think we can do that. If it deteriorates - feel free to lock/delete please, Tubeguru

So, speaking hypothetically, if the Tokyo Olympics don't go ahead this year, but the London Underground is open in the summer for frivolous travel again, what do people think about having the Tube Olympics anyway? ( Obviously, Tangy would have to agree too.) As a lot of you know I'm relatively new to tube challenging so haven't taken part in it before. I have started looking at routes for All Lines, Bottle etc but not had chance to try them and can't wait to give it a go.

Non-ranty thoughts please!
Not a plus one

I've been tempted to use the c-word quite a lot just recently ...

C-word? Is that Central or Circle? They're both pretty bad lines. :P

To more serious matters (sorry); I think it's too early to say right now. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said very recently that lockdown will be over in time for a Great British Summer, but I'm taking that with a very large pinch of salt*. How long does it take to plan a Tube Olympics? I'd wait until Easter, when we're supposed to be getting back to normal, to make a decision.

*Not because he is Conservative. I would be sceptical of such a claim made by anyone, except maybe a top scientist.

I would be happy to compete as very comfortable and not concerned with the "C" word, it's the "V" word that keeps me awake at night with worry... Plus have a ton of leave to use from last year / this year

Starting to look good for summer tube challenges. Struggling to remember what a tube train looks like.

They're great, long things which go in and out of tunnels all day long.

Was on a couple yesterday (essential travel), felt very strange. Just about remembered the right carriage/door positions for best interchange

The only thing I worry about is that if all lockdown restrictions are lifted in June, people are going to take that as a green light to go out and do anything they want, without taking into account that the virus will still be around.

And yes, this is a Corona-type post, but I feel it needs pointing out to people that just because the government say you CAN do something, it doesn't mean that you SHOULD. And the vaccine is designed purely to prevent people developing severe symptoms, and needing to go into hospital. It doesn;t make you immune from contracting the disease.

Anyway, that's all I wanted to say on the matter. Hopefully, people will be sensible and still take necessary precautions come June and July.
