A very good question John, I will tell you the story this evening...Starkey7 wrote: Kevin, what on earth were you doing at Lancaster Gate on a Zone 1 thing?! Running from there to Paddington?
How many tube stations have you visited?

I have roughly 1800 photos, the newest ones sre not yet online.Starkey7 wrote:Well, you must have quite a collection of pictures, then! I am most impressed that you've visited all 275 of them. May I ask what the picture that you have as your "avatar" is of?
The photo in my avatar is a 1973 Stock in Cockfosters. There was a short article in the Underground News about what 'Walk through; meant but I ant' remember it now. I can't look it up either, I'm in Aberdeen at the moment and won't be back before October.
The next station is Beary's Underground - www.london-underground.de

The standard "timeout" on ticket gates is 15 minutes.Going Underground wrote:I had a similiar "timed out" incident at Lancaster Gate on a Z1, is Starkey saying that you cannot re-enter the same station barriers within 3 mins?
You cannot do exit-enter-exit or enter-exit-enter within 15 minutes without the barriers moaning at you.
In terms of "visiting" stations, I believe I've done the lot, including Aldwych, over the past 10 years or so.
Cheers,
Barry

A couple of years back I travelled on the St. Petersburg metro with a friend who had a season ticket, and assumed he'd be able to pass it back over the gate and get us both through. No such luck... Unfortunately, the gates there didn't just have a discreet little 'Seek assistance' light. It set off an ear-splitting alarm and I was quickly accosted by a guard who was kitted out like a soldier (like foreign policemen generally tend to be). Not pleasant... Luckily we didn't get into any trouble (and the alarm was linked to a sensor that made it stop once I stepped back out of the gate, but being in a rabbit-in-the-headlights state it took me a while to cotton on to that).barrykas wrote: You cannot do exit-enter-exit or enter-exit-enter within 15 minutes without the barriers moaning at you.
Back to the subject... when I counted, I think my tally of visited stations came to something pathetic like 48. Bah.

If you're having to think about whether you've visited a station, you probably haven't.
If you just get out a stop before or a stop after your intended destination and walk the extra distance you'll start visiting a lot more stations...

In that example, you've at least got out of the train & walked between the platforms, so it seems to me that's more than a simple pass through. But you haven't used the escalators, gone through the barriers, or ventured above ground, so there's still lots more of the station you could have visited.
So - just how much of the station do you need to have visited before it counts as a 'visit'.
To illustrate how silly this can get, if we have to visit ALL the areas of the station normally accessible to the public, do we have to do BOTH toilets?

I've been through every station, and have entered, exited or interchanged at 160 of them. You know, I've still never used Chorleywood station, one of my closest.
I don't think you should disallow a visit merely because you re-entered the same station as you previously exited. I mean, every time I exit Chesham station, I end up entering it again without visiting another station...
But none of those 160 were visited purely because I wanted to say I had been there.
