How many tube stations have you visited?

Got anything to say that's not about the Tube? Say it here!

I have roughly 1800 photos, the newest ones sre not yet online.

The photo in my avatar is a 1973 Stock in Cockfosters. There was a short article in the Underground News about what 'Walk through; meant but I ant' remember it now. I can't look it up either, I'm in Aberdeen at the moment and won't be back before October.

Over my many visits to London I have only been to 125 stations on the Tube and 20 DLR Stations.

I managed to work this out by looking at a map and trying to remember all the times I've been down and where I've gone by tube.

153 stations I think I ahve actually 'visited' whatever that means, many for tubechallenging reasons.

The standard "timeout" on ticket gates is 15 minutes.

You cannot do exit-enter-exit or enter-exit-enter within 15 minutes without the barriers moaning at you.

In terms of "visiting" stations, I believe I've done the lot, including Aldwych, over the past 10 years or so.

Cheers,

Barry

A couple of years back I travelled on the St. Petersburg metro with a friend who had a season ticket, and assumed he'd be able to pass it back over the gate and get us both through. No such luck... Unfortunately, the gates there didn't just have a discreet little 'Seek assistance' light. It set off an ear-splitting alarm and I was quickly accosted by a guard who was kitted out like a soldier (like foreign policemen generally tend to be). Not pleasant... Luckily we didn't get into any trouble (and the alarm was linked to a sensor that made it stop once I stepped back out of the gate, but being in a rabbit-in-the-headlights state it took me a while to cotton on to that).

Back to the subject... when I counted, I think my tally of visited stations came to something pathetic like 48. Bah.

If you're having to think about whether you've visited a station, you probably haven't.

If you just get out a stop before or a stop after your intended destination and walk the extra distance you'll start visiting a lot more stations...
Sillert, V.I. wrote:As I said, it's a nightmare once you start to think about it.

In that example, you've at least got out of the train & walked between the platforms, so it seems to me that's more than a simple pass through. But you haven't used the escalators, gone through the barriers, or ventured above ground, so there's still lots more of the station you could have visited.

So - just how much of the station do you need to have visited before it counts as a 'visit'.

To illustrate how silly this can get, if we have to visit ALL the areas of the station normally accessible to the public, do we have to do BOTH toilets? :?

I've been through every station, and have entered, exited or interchanged at 160 of them. You know, I've still never used Chorleywood station, one of my closest.

I don't think you should disallow a visit merely because you re-entered the same station as you previously exited. I mean, every time I exit Chesham station, I end up entering it again without visiting another station...

But none of those 160 were visited purely because I wanted to say I had been there.

168 is my answer. i think i've "visited" every station in zone 1 amongst them. and by visited i mean "been in for long enough to tell you something about the place", which i think is what this was sposed to mean.
