Random 15 Championship 2018/19: Round 4

Post by tangy »

Welcome to the 2018/19 Random 15 Championship. I am your host (commonly known to regulars as the BERC when I am hosting Random 15 challenges). The Random 15 challenge is just that, visit 15 randomly selected stations that feature on the Tube Map (usually within zones 1-2 and using the Underground network only). There will be certain rounds within the championship that are a variation of this such as adding an extra zone or network e.g. DLR onto the challenge. So are you ready to take on the Random 15 championship?

If anyone is not familiar with the standard rules (or scoring) for Random 15 challenges, they can be read here: http://www.explorerticket.co.uk/tubecha ... 5rules.htm (for regulars this is the same rules you are already well versed with).

Round 4 is now less than a month away, so here is what you need to know.

When: Saturday 16th March 2019, 12:30 GMT start.
Pre challenge meet up: Great Portland Street (selected from the same bucket that the other stations will be drawn from).
Post challenge meet up: The Bricklayers Arms, 31 Gresse Street W1T 1QS (off TCR, the road)
Variant: A "normal" round so just LU stations within zones 1 & 2 only but with a live bucket draw.
Time limit: 4 hours.

Engineering works:
--Circle/H&C: No service Paddington (H&C)- Hammersmith (H&C).

--c2c: All trains will operate to/from Fenchurch Street.
--Crossrail & Greater Anglia (east): Closed throughout Liverpool Street- Shenfield.

There may be other engineering work on the National network further afield that may impact your journey.

This a live bucket draw, therefore challengers present at the meet up will pick stations out of a bucket themselves immediately before the start to generate the 14 other stations that will constitute the challenge. To allow time for this, I request that challengers be at the meet up point 10 minutes before so that the live bucket draw can take place and allow the prompt start of the challenge at 12:30. Thanks.

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

I think that was for Round 5 (as we will be finishing at Greenwich)?

That was my understanding as well as it is easy to get to from Greenwich (due to its close proximity to Southwark/Waterloo East/Blackfriars station)

Correct, we will be using Prince William Henry only for round 5 (as per reasons above).

The draw has now been conducted by a family number picking a station out of the same bucket that will be used for the other stations, therefore the start station will be:

GREAT PORTLAND STREET (meet in the ticket hall street side of the ticket barriers. Once again this is a live bucket draw so please be here by 12:20 for the remaining 14 stations to be drawn and the challenge started promptly at 12:30.

Interesting that the last three starts have all been around the NW corner of the Circle Line - Paddington, Baker Street, and now GPS (what did Edgware Road do wrong?).

The first start of the season (Cannon Street, for the Cannon Street Run) was also on the Circle Line!

Has there been a previous season where three consecutive starts have been so close together, or where 4 consecutive starts were on the same line?
