Christmas Cup

Post by Soup Dragon »

Now that the "One Hit Wonders Cup" has finished, I bring you the Christmas Cup. You can vote for your favourite Christmas Hit or nominate any songs that I've not included. Any songs with enough nominations will get a bye into the Quarter Finals next week.

1st Round - 15/16 DEC
2nd Round - 17/18 DEC
1/4 Finals - 19/20 DEC
Semi Finals - 21/22DEC
Final - 23/24DEC

I guess Slade would be favourites but personally that wouldnt be my pick.

Sorry is that Cliff Richard in there? I thought this was best record, not worst where Cliff would be guaranteed the top three places in my book, with saviours day winning by a nose.

Surely Millenium Prayer is far worse?

I used to think that Millenium prayer was worst, but when I heard saviours day for the first time in a few years it was gut wrenching. Millenium prayer is a very very close second, with Miseltoe and wine with the awful TOTP performance back in third. And don't get me started on the videos.

Fairytale of New York is in there, it's the 3rd match vs Wizzard....

I have to say that Fairytale of NY is one of my favourites.

White Christmas is just too old, but if I can find it, I'll put it on the second page of songs. The Darkness are in the first round it's the 6th match down, versus Mud... :)

Also for all the Cliff fans (there must be hundreds on this forum) Saviours day is also on the 2nd page. :)

What about Mike Oldfield and 'in dulce jubilo', strangely it reminds me of passing my uni finals in the summer of 1994 and watching an old Christmas day TOTP on UK gold.

It's on the second page and if it gets enough votes will get a bye to the quarter finals.

Round Two is up and running for the next two days:

Mariah Carey vs East 17
Wham vs Band Aid
Boney M vs Pogues & Kirsty Macoll
Darkness vs Slade

Both Darkness & Slade had 100% vote in the first round, so this is the tie of the round :)

Man, these take me back!

For anyone looking for a 'genuine' Christmas song while steering clear of Cliff Richard, the under-rated 'A Spaceman Came Travelling' is on the byes page.

Can't believe you kicked out Stop the Cavalry early as well. No taste, I tell you!

Can't we just ban C***f R*****d from the byes page? I had to go to my mum's in Oxford and she was playing a C***f R*****d christmas CD when I got there, almost got in the car and drove straight back to Kent!

Stop the Cavalry was tied with Wham and lost on the toss of a coin... I might just find a way to get Jona back in with a bye for the Quarter Finals, because I agree with you that he shouldn't have been kicked out

I quite agree there's just no excuse for such torture :D
