they shouldn't be able to do that from amersham, being a national rail station, and if they do you can always buy a travelcard from great missenden, which won't ever be an oyster station unless they extend oyster to cover the whole NR network, in which case they'll have to get rid of the 2 hour rule...
so yeah, we'll be safe!

yeah but what geoff was saying is what happens when you CAN'T buy a day travelcard from amersham anymore, i.e, you have to use oyster, similar to what they've done with the whole season tickets thing at tube stations.
a travelcard from great missenden will cover zones 1-6D.

Once you can't I think you'll be able to buy a Travelcard and put it on your Oyster cardZeibura wrote:yeah but what geoff was saying is what happens when you CAN'T buy a day travelcard from amersham anymore, i.e, you have to use oyster, similar to what they've done with the whole season tickets thing at tube stations.

Trust bloody TFL to induce this kind of headaching complication... I like the travelcard system! I do [almost] the whole lot for 4.80, and see no point in changing that
The DLR goes to Lewisham. The question is, why?

oyster cards are a silly complication, and to be honest i think they only made it like that so that they could generate more money from penalty fares. hence why they've introduced the new rule about not touching in and out, and the announcements i hear at stations about it are the most vague, incoherent dribble manageable.
i remember listening to a story from a bloke to a ticket inspector on a thameslink train who said he asked the ticket saleswoman at brixton to put a one day travelcard on his oyster card, and rather than telling him this wasn't possible, she just put 4.90 of prepay on there. so this guy had gone from brixton to herne hill via a number 3, and got on the thameslink there thinking he had a travelcard, ran into a ticket inspector and of course got fined £20. there's no justification in this at all, the ticketing system is ridiculously complicated, and the staff should not get away with being vague about it, or worse, not knowing anything.
in conclusion, oyster cards are a nice idea, but powered by a bunch of ******* under a bloodthirsty, vampiric conspiracy.
(i seem a little pissed off don't i?)
