I should add to this thread - I did successfully manage to complete an R15 on an Oyster card, with merely one overcharge. Which was refunded by the nice man at South Kensington, who could see the absurdity of exit at Fulham Broadway followed by entry at Fulham Broadway 1 minute later being counted as a journey continuation. ;) (The Sainsbury's next to the station entrance is very useful for a quick lunch!)

I bought an Oyster Card for my friend on Thursday and yes it was one of the limited edition wedding ones :) Although she wasn't exactly pleased to see them on it and hastily looked for something to cover it up...

Assuming that this has gone successfully, I am led to believe that this won't be the first limited edition Oyster Card, however I know no more details.

It seems likely they would do something similar for the Olympics at least.

Say I traveled INSIDE the system all day only tapping in the once at the beggining of the day, at what point does my oyster stop being validated?
Bringing my previous question back up, I wasn't interested in the maximum journey times, I was wondering when the Oyster stops being phisically valid.

I.e ticket inspector comes round and checks oyster, its valid, moves on or it's not valid, bad.

Is it possible to add credit to PAYG Oyster on line?

Supposedly, it is...

However...

You have to tap in to a specified station in order for it to be added.

The first time I did it, nothing happened at all. Or at least, I don't think it did, but see the tale I am about to relate to you

The second time (which, if you're interested, was on the Z1 weekend), it did go on, but it didn't. Not straight away anyway - it went on three days after I tapped in, which meant that in order to actually use my Oyster Card that day I had to pay at a counter at the station (I could've used a machine, but was at a counter to ask why it hadn't gone on), using the same debit card, and it went on straight away.

So, yes it is possible to add credit to a PAYG Oyster Card online, but not worth it.

I top up online all the time when I go to London. As long as I know where I will be entering the system, then it's fine. I've never had a problem with it.

I was about to retell my tale of woe regarding online topups, then realised that it was about two posts above... That's why I won't be topping up online again any time soon.

As this thread has come to the top of the list again, I thought I'd paste in the very first post, from our erstwhile member Zeibura (he's still a "member"; he just doesn't post any more):

"by zeibura » 04 Sep 2005 08:23 pm

come on, who agrees with me here. oyster cards suck."

So, do they still "suck" after six years?

Exactly - ours don't suck because we don't pay to use them.
