What's happened to the forum?

Post by The Orange One »

I haven't been on the forum in a while - mostly due to the current situation meaning no challenges for the foreseeable - and logged in today to find people seem to have gone mad in the last year?

I know it's one thing amongst many but it's a little sad to see the community on this forum has turned into, well, a clone of every other shouty ranty online forum out there.

By the way, hello new joiners, when normal service resumes you'll find out we're actually quite a nice bunch :D although it's frankly bizarre to see that one of you is here because of me (via Omari's Snake Challenge)! I strongly advise everyone not to look at things that I do and think "yeah you know what that looks like a good idea" because you will end up measuring the Emirates Dangleway with an IKEA measuring tape.

It's still a lot less shouty than some parts of the internet I visit. This is my little oasis of geekiness!
Not a plus one

I follow two time-tested rules:

1. Only view the content you want to view.
2. Don't argue with strangers on the internet.

I really wish they'd hurry up and send me the money then. I've not seen a penny from whoever the "elite" are since this whole thing started ...

Also, just so people know, several of Andi's (golf) posts have been reported by people over the past few weeks, due to their conspiratorial, ranting nature about various topics.

As I have no time to argue about it (and as I also agree with the people reporting them) such posts, and any others which I see going down this route, are simply going to either be deleted, or edited to remove the content that people are finding tedious (see above in this thread).

I made a post about this in the Announcements section a few weeks ago. Can the posts about Coronavirus being fake, the government being corrupt, and other related content please STOP, or I will take action to ensure that they WILL stop. People are getting fed up with it, and not just me.

I had a feeling Coronavirus would ruin lots of things, but I didn't think this place would be one of them ...

You claim to be "telling truth", but if you are telling the truth then back it up with solid evidence. At the moment all you're doing is claiming stuff without offering any facts or figures to prove it.

Also, to address your other point, the idea of having an anonymous reporting facility on any forum is so that people can report stuff without having to get into argument with the person they have an issue with. A lot of people don't like saying it to people personally, especially when they know that they'll probably end up in a argument they don't want, or will be insulted. Mental health issues also prevent a lot of people from wanting confrontation, and you are a very confrontational person, as we've seen many times over the years.

I don't understand why you're so angry with everything. If Coronavirus DOES turn out to be fake (which I very much doubt) then we can all address that issue once it becomes known. In the meantime, the most sensible thing for anyone to do is to assume it is real and take the necessary precautions. The government are hardly micromanaging our lives right now. People can still essentially do as they please to a large extent, which is why the rate of infection is so high. This isn't a police state yet ...

I am going to make a guess that a lot of people on the forum don't want to be continually hearing about how Coronavirus is ruining everything. We're all very tired of the whole thing after almost a year of it. We're all aware that the Tories are dreadful, and are doing a terrible job of managing Coronavirus (no matter what Hopeless Traveller tells you), but it would be nice if we could keep it off the forum, as I have now stated several times.

That's true of at least one person on the forum (me).

That was honestly optional... you could do well and not go anywhere near there!
