"A planned event"

Post by michael_churchill »

I subscribe to @TflTravelAlerts on Twitter and at 7pm yesterday (Monday 10th) they tweeted...

On Wednesday, a planned event means central London will be busier than usual.

Then, mysteriously, they couldn't say what the event was. There was speculation that it was connected to the state visit of the King and Queen of Spain, or that Trump was on his way. It was announced today that it's for "F1 Live" a demonstration run ahead of the British Grand Prix this weekend.

Presumably F1 wouldn't let TfL reveal any more at the time.

I think security reasons is the thinking behind it only being announced today. Still, Lewis Hamilton has said that he won't be there at the event according to ESPN. Given the other news today that the BRDC has triggered the break clause in Silverstone's contract for 2019 it should be interesting to see if it could potentially lead to a GP in London, not that Sadiq Khan is all that keen on the idea.

Last time there was a similar event in London, TfL/LU were completely overwhelmed, leading to stations on both the Bakerloo and Jubliee lines being closed, with announcers on the Bakerloo platforms at Baker Street redirecting passengers to the Jubilee Line and vice versa!
