There wouldn't need to be another election if May resigned - they would hold another leadership election, as they just did.

Sorry - that is what I meant! But it takes less time to hold a General Election, but I don't get why it was September before they were going to hold the general member's ballot?

That little white 'l' was the successor to the other letters.

Because that's how long a proper, two-person race for the leadership would have taken. The two candidates would go round the country, canvassing support from the Tory party members. But as they all pulled out, that became superfluous to requirements.
