North Watford Curve

Post by TC95 »

For those of you on here who are interested in interesting rail diversions: as well as fast services to Amersham from Harrow all weekend, there will be a 15 service from Watford to either Amersham or Chesham via the North Watford Curve. Only a handful of passenger trains traverse this section of track a day. These services are supposed to run on both on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th.

I was in Watford the other week. I had time. I strolled over to the tube station, and as I wondered down to the tube station, I saw Amersham on one of the trains. I had to ride it!

I was intending just to get a photo of the labyrinth.

I rode this yesterday - I'm not quite sure why I was expecting anything else but t's a pretty uninspiring piece of track. It appealed to the completist in me though :)

Was also on it yesterday. While the track itself may be a bit uninspiring, the services that were in operation, were rather interesting. Contrary to what I had thought, both the Chesham and Amersham services from Watford, had originated at Northwood with services officially being run as Northwood to Amersham/Chesham via Watford.

There was an inconsistency in train destinations on this service. Trains from Chesham sometimes displayed Watford as its destination, while others displayed Northwood, true also for the associated Northwood via Watford services from Amersham too. All services continued back to Northwood though, despite what its destination said...

That'll be the drivers being too lazy to change it.
