He's right in every sense. The town has the same name as the river. It strikes me that no answer is going to be right, as you're determined to shoot every suggestion down.

I was looking for stations named directly after a river, as "Brent" appears to have been, rather than named after some other feature that was named after a river. "Brent" still appears to be unique.

Still not convinced by either of those. I think there was something decidedly odd about "Brent", although I suppose if the only alternative was "Woodstock" then it was probably an improvement!

It only sounds odd now because of the existence of the London Borough of Brent. In 1923 it wouldn't have sounded odd.

You'd still have thought they'd have chosen "Brent Bridge" or some other local feature. Rivers are long straggly things that go through many different places - they don't identify a particular location.

I think a lot of the Underground station names would have sounded odd in 1923. The reason they seem fine now is that often, the surrounding area has taken the name of the station.

Can I add Ribblehead to the list. It's at the source of the Ribble and as far as I remember there's nothing there bar the river and the railway!

Do you have any examples of that?

I know this doesn't really answer your question but I believe Pinner station was originally named after the River Pinn which flows through the village
