London Underground Puzzle

One of my other hobbies is puzzling and I recently took part in the annual MIT Mystery hunt ( http://www.mit.edu/~puzzle/ ).
One puzzle involved the London Underground so I thought I would share it with you.

The puzzle is deliberately cryptic, so don't be surprised if you don't know what to do. The final solution is a word or phrase - there's a link to the solution, but you're not going to peek, are you?
I'm happy to give hints if anyone wants, and here's a necessary one: you'll need the standard map pre Embankment changes.
