Nonsuch Park in Cheam...

Parkrun is 5k, so yes it is over the same distance. Why is it strange? Anthony is somewhat younger than Geoff!

CrunchySaviour has done most of his runs in Milton Keynes, with an MK PB just 2 seconds slower than his solitary Gunnersbury time.

Scrxisi, you could also aim for Iain's Nonsuch time, which is much more recent than his 2006 PB.

Everyone seems to be doing Parkrun. Is this something I should be doing?

Do you want to run 5k... If you don't, then parkrun isn't for you...

My practise run is around the "block" which is 1238 metres, normally takes around 7min 15secs - 7mins 20secs which I do at least twice a week and that is often a struggle... (PB is around 6mins 50 and slowest is around 7mins 35secs)
The thought of doing 4 laps + is a little scary to say the least

I've never done a Parkrun as such.

Though I have raced in Nonsuch Park in the 1989 English National Cross Country Championships. I remember it poured down with rain in torrents all day. My then girlfriend, now wife, came to watch - after getting completely soaked and covered in mud, I don't think she ever came to watch me again! Before the start, I was walking round with her trying to shelter under her umbrella when we literally walked straight into Steve Cram who was doing the same, also about to do the race. (I think Steve Cram was third that year.)

I've also done many 5ks. I honestly can't remember my fastest time, but have found a result from a 5k I did in November 1991. This was at the Eastway Cycle Circuit, which was where the Olympic Velodrome is now situated. This was a hilly twisting course and on that day I did it in 16:38.

Happy days!

I need to get fit. I think I can manage 5k without killing myself ...

Woah. 16:38 is HUGELY impressive! I presume you're not quite up to that pace now :P

Love to see new parkrunners giving it a go. They are very friendly places, it's a great way to get fit, and you might just catch a bug...

Edited the first post to reflect Nozzacook's self timed parkrun.

My local Parkrun course is in a nice area - woods alongside a river valley.

No - I'm not supposed to run at all these days. A botched operation on a knee injury ten years ago ended my running career. All I can do now is enough for a tube challenge every few months, but running regularly is completely impossible. I used to hate 5k as a distance - short enough that you had to push it hard all the way, but too long when you are in agony doing it. My preference was for a race anywhere between 5 miles and half marathon. That said, I thought my PB for 5k was about 30 seconds quicker than the result I found flicking through my file of old results this morning. Your comments have made me feel guilty that I've never got round to sorting out all my old race results and compiling a list of PBs for each distance - given that I'm never going to beat them again and it would give my son something to aim for in a few years.

That's what I love about Endomondo, you put in all of your races and it generates a PB list for you :)

I do like the idea of meeting up before an R15 to do a parkrun.
