Thanks! I was quite pleased with the way the different lines fitted the different sections of the tune. Sheet music is here if you need it.

I've been working on a 270-station version, but I'm not entirely happy with it yet. In theory they should all fit neatly into two-and-a-half repetitions of the tune (the first part of the melody takes about 60 stations and the second part about 50), but obviously you lose the division into lines.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. The stations are grouped from A to Z. (Maybe I'll try an A-Z version of mine...)

I thought that referred to the index, not the map!

After over a year since my original attempt at putting the 270 tube stations to the tune of the Major-General's Song/the Elements Song, there are now two songs with up to 267 of the stations in (guess which 3 were left out). These are Tunnel Sounds' A-Z of the Underground and Jay Foreman's song. Taking advantage of the ingenuity of the rhymes used, this is my second attempt at writing a song with all 270 stations. It contains some nice rhymes, some nasty rhymes and some which rhyme, of course, with themselves. The stations start approximately on the Metropolitan Line and end in Zone 1. Technically, the song only contains 268 of them, but I hope you will enjoy!

Thanks to RobbieM for pointing out a few duplications and omissions in my earlier version of the "Underground Can-Can". Here's the revised version and I'll be delighted if he can give it a performance!

1st time (without coda)

Amersham and Chorleywood and Rickmansworth and Northwood Hills,
Northwick Park and Preston Road and Chesham, Watford, Croxley, Pinner,
Wembley Park and Finchley Road, North Harrow and Great Portland Street,
Euston Square, King's Cross St Pancras, Barbican and Baker Street.
Liverpool Street! Moorgate, Aldgate, Farringdon.
Ruislip Manor! Ickenham and Hillingdon.
And West Harrow! Uxbridge, Eastcote, Rayners Lane.
Moor Park, Northwood! Chalfont (joined with Latimer), and Ruislip, and we end the Met with Harrow-on-the-Hill.

[...the Metropolitan, and now the Bakerloo...]

Let's start! Piccadilly Circus, Elephant and Castle, Regent's Park, Embankment, Harlesden, Kenton,
Charing Cross, Lambeth North and Oxford Circus, Kilburn Park, South Kenton, Stonebridge Park and Waterloo.
Queen's Park, Kensal Green and Wembley Central, Willesden Junction, Baker Street, North Wembley, Maida Vale and Edgware Road, Paddington and Harrow (teaming up with Wealdstone), Marylebone, and Warwick Avenue.

Perivale and Hanger Lane and Holland Park and Shepherd's Bush,
Oxford Circus, Chancery Lane and Epping, Debden, Loughton, Chigwell,
Greenford and North Acton and East Acton and West Acton too,
Leytonstone, Newbury Park, Buckhurst Hill, Theydon Bois,
Barkingside, Bethnal Green, Marble Arch,
Ruislip Gardens, Ealing Broadway, Roding Valley...
Bank! Tottenham Court Road, West Ruislip and South Woodford, Snaresbrook, Leyton, Woodford, Wanstead, Stratford and Mile End, Hainault, Fairlop, Redbridge, Liverpool Street, Bond Street, Queensway, Northolt, Holborn and St Paul's.
Gants Hill, then Lancaster Gate, South Ruislip and White City, Notting Hill Gate, then Grange Hill and that's the Central.
Next, Waterloo and City, it's a simple ditty, Waterloo and Bank and those are all.

2nd time (without coda)

Acton Town and Chiswick Park and Turnham Green and Stamford Brook,
Wimbledon and Wimb'don Park, Earl's Court, East Putney, Richmond, Southfields,
Gunnersbury and Parsons Green, Kew Gardens and West Kensington,

Ealing Broadway! Kensington Olympia.
Fulham Broadway! Hammersmith, Victoria.
Ealing Common! Barons Court, South Kensington.
Ravenscourt Park! Westminster, Embankment, High Street Kensington, Blackfriars, Mansion House and Tower Hill.

[...and some of these are on the Circle line as well...]

Sloane Square, Monument, St James's Park, Mile End and Temple, Stepney Green and Cannon Street, West Ham and Upton Park, Aldgate East and Barking, Upney, Dag'nham Heathway, Becontree and Bromley-just-by-Bow.
Elm Park, Upminster and Hornchurch, Dag'nham East and Plaistow, Notting Hill Gate, Bayswater, Bow Road, Upminster Bridge, Whitechapel, East Ham, West Brompton ends the District, there are no more stations left to go.

Tooting Broadway, Tooting Bec, South Wimbledon and Colliers Wood,
Clapham North and Clapham South and Morden, Balham, Stockwell, Oval,
Goodge Street, Euston, Leicester Square, Embankment, Moorgate, Warren Street,

Burnt Oak, Angel and Chalk Farm, West Finchley and High Barnet, Tottenham Court Road and Archway, Edgware and Brent Cross, finally the Crescent - Mornington - that's pleasant, telling us the Northern line has ceased.

3rd time (with coda)

Hammersmith and Goldhawk Road and Royal Oak and Ladbroke Grove,
Westbourne Park and Lat'mer Road, Wood Lane and Shepherd's Bush (the Market),
Paddington and Edgware Road and stations east of Baker Street,

Those are the stations of the London Underground.

[That was the Piccadilly, Piccadilly, Piccadilly, Piccadilly, Piccadilly, Piccadilly...]

The stations of the Underground! The stations of the Underground! The Underground, the Underground! The Und - er - ground!

The difficulty is finding time to breathe!  :!:

Therefore there may be some breaks, and changes to the pace. But the unbracketted words and notes should all be there and in the right order.

...but I'm absolutely washed out. It went down a storm, it really did!!! There were about 100 in the audience, who really got into the spirit of it! It was the penultimate event in a variety show programme, preceding a fundraising promise auction.

Now, all being well, I should be able to post a recording sometime soon. However, I discovered that my primary cameraman's recording system dropped out after 8 minutes, :( but I think someone else has managed to record the whole thing on his phone (from a different part of the auditorium). I have not yet seen or heard how the two recordings came out, but I'm sure that it'll at least give the gist of the event.

So hopefully we should be able to take the best bits of both of them, and mix them, and post them. Watch this space!

Oh, and I hope you don't mind, but I gave the notes I used to the auction afterwards - signed and dated - and with your name credited on them. And they raised an extra £10!

Now I need to go home and sleep it off, I guess.... Will be in touch. :D

Wow, that's brilliant! I've never heard one of my songs performed in public since I was at school. (I once wrote a song about the routes of the first thirty A-roads, and someone performed it in a folk club, but I never got to hear a recording.) Glad it all went well and I'm pleased to have been able to raise some extra cash. You must be exhausted!

...and still alive the following day. Blood pressure/adrenalin levels getting back to normal!

I should be getting a couple of CDs with the files on soon - assuming I can paste them together, I hope to have the whole thing. I hear the first one ran out just around the Piccadilly Line starting, so as that's the final one, most of it's there. I hope the grand finale exists on the other recording though!

I have now received both recordings - and between them we have managed to record the total thing. So I'll get to work when I have a moment or two to spare. (But these moments are a bit elusive at the moment....)
