In today's print edition of the Guardian newspaper there is a full page article about Mark Wallinger's tube station art works. The page also has a separate text box discussing tube challenging and speculating on the 2009 record breaking route. Unfortunately, I can't find this separate article in the on-line edition, which just has a brief reference to tube challenging.

There is much more about the tube challenge in my print edition of the paper, than in the on-line article referenced above.tubeguru wrote:http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/feb/0 ... NTCMP=SRCH

Indeed, but I was just pre-empting the lazy buggers who expect a link posted, instead of going off to search for it themselves.

We were approached by the new member artontheunderground on here and asked to keep silent about it Because Steve is based in London he gave the route away and had discussions about it with him (sorry Tangy we were not allowed to tell you about it but i hope you approve) Of course we gave away the record for 2009 because we not fools in giving the current record away if u can follow it i now have to remember which stations are numbered lol.

Wow, I think it's very cool. Your achievement will forever be (cryptically, at least) recognised in EVERY underground station! That's an honour and a half.
I'm left thinking, if they hadn't have announced the reasoning behind the ordering of the numbers, would people have worked out what it meant?

Question: do you not think that everyone who has broken the record should be "recognised" in this way? After all, when the record is broken, these numbers will be meaningless and irrelevant.tractakid wrote:Wow, I think it's very cool. It represents the most recent available information at the time of the installation, considering the secrecy of the current route.

So it's a perfect case of art becoming worthless and dated over time. As with most art ...

Re: LU150 Art Commission, with a Tube Challenge Connection
I have to say though, a few years down the line we should have more stations on the network - meaning my one-and-only completion of Feb 2009 will become historic. Trouble is, I'm not in best health these days for running, but it'd be nice to be able to attempt another completion when the time comes.
If I can get hold of a route that was once a record-breaker, I may have a chance of using it as a basis for working out a new walking-based route. This may still let me complete the network in a day despite having to walk (or limp, perhaps!). These artworks should mean that route will be available to me.
And everyone else, of course...

You can have our 2004 route if you like - you won't break any records with it though!RobbieM wrote:If I can get hold of a route that was once a record-breaker, I may have a chance of using it as a basis for working out a new walking-based route.
