I think Obama will take it without too much trouble. The popular vote might be close, but he seems to have a lead in most of the swing states. I think the electoral college will end up at something like 294 - 244 in his favour.

Has anyone stopped to wonder why we spend so much time worrying about US elections, and yet don't give two hoots about places like, say, Australia or India or Austria?

I have to get a lot of sleep, annoyingly, tonight. However, I am live tweeting @TheotherRB.

Hopeless Traveller will, of course, now be disappointed that the right-wing candidate didn't win.

The real election to watch will be the next one. Two new contenders, one of whom is tipped to be Hilary Clinton.

Yes, the Democrats will probably get behind Clinton quite quickly, while the Republicans will fight amongst themselves as people like Rand Paul and Chris Christie attract support from opposite sides of the party. The GOP is such a mess.
