Actually, John is perfectly right.

The chances of ALL teams staying where they are is almost zero. Therefore, SOME teams will go up and SOME will go down. After all, if only one team goes up, then another must go down to replace it.
.
So therefore, if we assume that ALL teams don't stay where they are, it is always the case that SOME teams will go up, and SOME teams will go down.

Surely not if you are several points clear at the top or adrift at the bottom

No, but then those teams are SOME of the ones not moving.

But SOME of the ones in the middle will go up and down. He's still right.

So another few weeks go by, and another update comes along.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... sp=sharing

The usual up and down sort of thing, with the top three more or less comfortable now following their performances in their respective leagues. Down the bottom, QPR, Portsmouth and Reading are fighting for the wooden spoon. Plymouth's presence down there is a blip, of course.

Another update, as we move slowly towards the culmination of the season. Can QPR and Reading move away from the bottom? Interestingly, both teams have exactly the same goals-per-game ratio, and the same goal difference.

Another update. I think it's more or less decided at the top and bottom.

OK, so after a few weeks of no updates, the season is almost over. I can then update the table to reflect the final positions.

In related news, I need to decide which team to "support" next season. A computer program will be written to assist me in this endeavour.

No, you're stuck with Plymouth. You can't just ditch your loyalty!

The only reason I am "supporting" Plymouth is because, by sheer coincidence, that is the team that my random thingy chose for me last year. I said at the time that it would run on a season-only basis.

The fact I live in Plymouth has nothing to do with it.
