Eurovision Song Contest 2009

Post by hwolge »

Watch out for this possible Swedish entry - Molly Sandén... Probably one of the best Swedish singers since Carola! I believe she will win the Swedish finals in a few weeks time with this:

I've been too busy listening to a CD of 25 entries so far announced. The standard is quite poor this year I think.

Well, the Swedish finals have finished and the winner is something called "La voix"- I was completely wrong in my premature predictions... Besides, I don't think we stand a chance in Moscow!

This years Swedish entry is not typically Swedish at all, personally I think it's great and is in my top 5 at the moment. To the list of my favourites this year add Slovenia, Montenegro, Norway, Spain and a mention to Azerbaijan as well.

Sweden remains the only country to have won with an entry named after a tube station.

The only other winner that has any mention of a tube station is Monaco with Un Banc (Bank), Un arbre, Une Rue in 1971.

But Malta came second in 2005 with "Angel", and didn't require a Greek dancer cavorting in a short skirt to reach that placing, which clearly makes it the moral winner.

In 1985 the song "Piccadilly Circus" placed 4:th in the Swedish finals for ESC... Check it out on YouTube!

Hoiwever, I don't think this was actually named after the tube station either...

The Swedish entry is gathering in popularity. So far in the pre-charts it ranks number 5 overall, and number 1 for the first semi final. The first semi is looking to be a good one for Scandinavia & Nordic with Sweden (1), Finland (2) and Iceland (4) all predicted to qualify, semi final two has Norway (1) and Denmark (5) also set to qualify.

For the grand final the current prediction is:
1. Norway
2. France
3. Greece
4. Spain
5. Sweden
6. Azerbaijan
11. Royaume-Uni

So then, the moment is almost upon us. It's our time (see what I did there?)

Who's the favourite at the moment? And what do people think of Graham Norton in charge of proceedings?

Just over an hour to go until the first semi on BBC3 tonite and I can't wait. Looking forward to the new voting this year hopefully it will mean less biased towards the Eastern European countries. Sweden is my favourite in tonights first semi and I hope they progress to the final. My other predictions to progress tonight...in no particular order:
Azerbaijan
Denmark
Estonia
Finland
Greece
Iceland
Bosnia & Herz.
FYR Macedonia
Armenia
Cant wait... :)
