A crucial typo!

http://www.tubechallenge.com/rules.html

Rule Number 6 reads:
"It is necessary to have an independent witness accompany the record attempt at all times. "

However, Guinness say:
"It is not necessary to have an independent witness accompany the record attempt at all times."

Quite important, no? Could cause all sorts of confusion.

Incidentally, when is the front page of the website going to be updated? If anyone's still organising Zone 1 2006, they're some way off the pace...

Any update on this?

Oh hello.

Do you know, I'm sure I changed that ... so the Guinness rules definitely say "NOT"?

Yeah, I can send the pdf if you like.

Edit: What a dull 500th post...

My view is:

Yes, generally speaking Guinness require an independent witness through-out any record attempt. However the special conditions for THIS record basically says - "Thats's not reasonable, use hourly statements instead etc..." Unfortunately they also state that all general rules apply. In other words - they do contradict themselves.

To me, the most reasonable interpretation must be that a "witness throughout the attempt" is NOT required for THIS PARTICULAR RECORD.

Glad someone else spotted this typo. However perhaps not a bad idea to partner up for an attempt rather than try it alone.

Is this longest time between posts on this forum?

Sometimes I like a bit of bump and grind. Even just one of the two cannot be sniffed at.
