(a) it means people have to buy a Zones 1-3 Travelcard instead of just a Zone 1 one.

(b) it's awkward for people from the other side of London to get to or from.

Not that I'm suggesting changing it at this late stage, it just seemed an odd choice.
a) I believe the cheapest paper travel card is a Z1-4 Anytime. Personally, I'm planning to get the train to Clapton then bus it up Lea Bridge Road anyway - which means I only have to pay for Zones 1-2. As it's the Zone 1 Challenge not some challenge with loads of time spent in the system, I can do it with Oyster instead - but even for Oyster the Z1 cap and the Z1-2 cap are exactly the same!!

b) Granted. But it's not very far from Walthamstow and not too far from Leyton either - both have decent tube links into town!!

you can only buy a 1-6 anyway, off peak. Even during anytime hours the minimum is Z1-4.

The William IV pub was chosen because, unlike many pubs on a Friday afternoon/evening I can book the function room, many Central London pubs will not hire out on a Friday night (always a busy night) or have a minimum party size.

The advantage of this is that us Tube Challengers all be together, thus not mixing too much with Joe Public. Making it easier for me to make announcements, award prizes and organise the quiz. Also this pub is happy to serve pub meals to us, which we do need after an afternoon running round the Tube and has a dartboard/bar billiards table.

As mentioned, the William IV is only 30 minutes away from KX or Liverpool Street via Walthamstow Central so not too far a diversion.

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

You wouldn't win as you must depart by train from the first station.
