Are we going to have team names again? I want something to do at work tomorrow morning, and I figure thinking up excruciatingly bad puns on station names and song titles will do the job nicely :D

OK, I will buy a pint for whoever comes up with the best team name (judges decision will be final...) Get your thinking caps on :)
p.s. thats a pint of beer etc... not vodka before you ask.

Something like "the record is out of Gallions Reach?"

One per team, or one per team member?

One name per team please, teams with 4 members are less likely to win because there is no way I'm buying 4 pints :)

Neil has his team name already, so I take it that means the "Guru" will be attending?

Right, I think I have my route if I'm going to take part (may just spectate due to carrying stuff from work) and even have a nice team name as I want the pint. Actually, I've got 2, can I enter them both? Or I could sell one I suppose.

Is the pub the same one we went to after Shoreditch closed?

See you at 6:30 at Poplar.

No, I can't make it tonight but feel free to nick it and use it yourselves.

I claim the prize if it wins though. :)

Yes Ric, it's the same pub that we went to after Shoreditch closed.

Just got in after this evening's activities.

great to see everyone who made it, and a decent turnout for the event.

A difficult night to get good times; lots of delays on the system, and we gave up taking it seriously after only 15 minutes, spending the time spotting other teams out on the DLR.

One great time though, from editorsfoot. Just over a minute outside the record I think, and he had exactly the same route as I did when I set the record a couple of weeks ago.

Finally, a very high standard in the team name competition, won by jamesthegill & co with Devon's Road how they make it so creamy :D

Now time for bed before another early start back to London in the morning.

Thanks to everyone who attended tonights little gathering, in total we had 14 competitors in 9 teams, not a bad effort for the inaugaral DLR event.

So here are the official results....

Best team names:
1st Devons Road How They Make It So Creamy
2nd Cutty Stark (entered by John Stark)
3rd Bend it like Beckton

And as for the times, in time honoured fashion of reverse order... (drum roll)

9th aborted at Mudcute after 15 mins!!!
"The Race of Bow" David Scard & Ric Brackenbury

8th in 2:18:21 (Lewisham to Tower Gateway)
"Bend it like Beckton" Antony Brown

7th = in 2:11:24 (all 3 teams Beckton to King George V)
"Felicity Shadwell" Matt Westcott
"I Tawt I Taw A Puddy Cat at Canary Wharf" Kevin Brown
"What a delicious Pudding Mill Lane" Phillip & Jamie Brown

4th in 2:05:56 (Lewisham to Shadwell)
"Cutty Stark" John Stark

3rd in 2:01:15 (Blackwall to Lewisham)
"Devons Road how they make it so creamy"
James Tong, Matt Nunn & Jack Bynoe

2nd in 2:00:28 (Lewisham to Bank)
"You are the weakest link... goodbye!" Martin Hazel & Laxmeesh Rao

1st Place in an impressive 1:48:21 (Lewisham to Bank)
"Elverson Road Presley has left the building" Phil Booth.

The DLR proved that it isn't so reliable after all, still I guess after 20 years the system is starting to show its age :) I did set off with John Stark but he managed to make the Gallions to King George run, whereas I missed it by 10 seconds  It was good fun though, we passed a couple of teams along the way and bumped into Tangy and Lax whilst I was waiting for my final train to Tower Gateway. The only downside was that I didn't get to spend as long at the pub as I had hoped for.

A most enjoyable night and many thanks for Soupie for organising and providing the no doubt highly prized certificates... :D

First time I had ever seen the DLR, let alone been on it and there are some splendid views of London........

Shame it was all a bit of rush to get there and with the problems on the way round it meant only a few fleeting hello's and goodbye's at the pub.... :(

Perhaps next time we could do something on a weekend........

Haha one of my rejected names was "The Cutty Sark BBQ Party" :D

"Which station are we at?"
"Greenwich."
"Oh, did I miss seeing the Cutty Sark then?"
"No, it's over there...in that jamjar."

I'll post a writeup in my lunch break, when I have caffiene.

That is indeed true, we arrived at Clapham and only had 13 minutes to get the 23:53 to Feltham. We were in urgent need of food so dashed outside to see what we could buy. KFC had a huge queue, so we dashed back to McDonalds, which was closed (despite the "M" being lit up). The last option was the kebab joint opposite the station. "What can you make in 5 minutes" I asked the kebab man, "A chicken doner" was the reply, obviously I opted for chilli sauce. We got back to the train just in time (having also stopped to purchase a pasty). Whilst consuming the kebab I noticed that the chilli sauce and grease had seeped through the wrapping and was now on my shorts and leg. My leg had already turned red from the burning hot chilli.... now just imagine what that must do to your stomach if it does that to your leg. :)
