31st July - DLR 20th Anniversary Challenge

Post by Soup Dragon »

The DLR was officially opened by H.M. the Queen on 31st July 1987.
In order to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the DLR there will be a challenge organised on Tuesday 31st July 2007.
The meeting point will be Poplar Station at 18:30, from here you can decide upon whichever DLR station you wish to start from, but you must start between 19:00 and 19:30. Once you have completed the challenge we will all meet up at the Captain Kidd in Wapping (unless anyone has a better suggestion) to see who set the fastest time.

Please eMail, PM me or reply here if you wish to take part.

For some reason I thought you already had the DLR record but I see that honour lies with Tangy, so now's your chance to add another record. Are there any Strarkeyesqué runs that only you would consider on this challenge?

I was going to have another go at this the other week - I came up with a route that I thought could take several minutes off the record, but it does rely on a monster run halfway round....I think it's a Starkey special. I'm afraid I'm away for this one but I hope it goes well for everyone.

The only one that looks possible is Gallions Reach to King George V, it's only 1.5km and looking at some routes last night you would need to do it in about 7 minutes!

You'll go past the rather colourful block I used to live in at Deptford Bridge.

Do you not remember going to that pub last year on Shoreditch closing day?

Neil, I certainly remember the pub from last years Shoreditch thing, and that's why I said we should meet there afterwards (as I don't know any other pubs in that area). I would be open to any suggestions of alternative venues for the meet aftrewards. :)

Just as well you haven't got a route, I hate to think what it would be like! :) and you find it hard enough to stay awake on a challenge anyway!

If the Missus gives me time off from wedding preperations, and I can resist a Gillingham pre-season friendly then count me in too, haven't been on the DLR since I did a geography project on the LDDC back in 1987, wonder if the area has changed at all?
