Your definition of crossing is exactly as I intended it. Even though in reality the King's X mess does not matter because entering AND leavibg towards the north-east would not yield a very long snake... At Waterloo, it seems that all reasonable snakes using London Bridge - Southwark - Waterloo - Lambeth North - Kennington can instead use Elephant & Castle - Lambeth North - Waterloo for the same number of stations. I think these are the only hair splitting places. But I'm more than happy with your definition.

As for your solution, I can only say there is room for significant improvement!

I think I have an improvement:

Epping  Woodford  Stratford via Hainault  Waterloo  Elephant & Castle  Stockwell  Victoria  South Kensington  Green Park  Westminster  Mile End  Bank  Euston  Tottenham Court Road  Holborn  Leicester Square  Charing Cross  Oxford Circus  Notting Hill Gate  Gloucester Road  Acton Town  Rayners Lane  Wembley Park  Baker Street  South Kenton

For 122 stations.

Getting closer, but a few more to go! You have not yet identified the optimum finish station...

It's not Heathrow, is it? Either there, Upminster or Amersham/Chesham

I've got 122 for both Epping - High Barnet and Epping - Upminster, but struggling to find 123.

124 if I've counted correctly

Epping  Woodford  Stratford (via Hainault) Waterloo  Elephant & Castle  Stockwell  Victoria  High Street Kensington  Earls Court  Acton Town (via District) Rayners Lane  Wembley Park  Baker Street (via Jubilee) Paddington (via Bakerloo) Notting Hill Gate  Bond Street  Westminster  Mile End  Bank  Kings Cross  Leicester Square  Charing Cross  Oxford Circus  Tottenham Court Road  High Barnet (via Mornington Crescent)

A couple more to go - still not the best finishing station!

Think I got 125 doing Epping - Morden Also nearly got quite a bit more doing Epping - H&W, but realised I went through Baker Street twice :(

126 I hope...

Epping  Woodford  Mile End via Hainault  Liverpool Street (on H&C) Embankment  Piccadilly Circus  Holborn  Bank  Euston  Tottenham Court Road  Notting Hill Gate  Paddington (B/C/D) Baker Street (on Bakerloo) Wembley Park (on Jubilee) Rayners Lane  Ealing Common/Acton Town  Earl's Court (on District) High Street Kensington  Gloucester Road/South Kensington  Green Park  Westminster  Victoria  Stockwell  Elephant & Castle  Waterloo  West Ham  Upminster

This route isn't doable until Paddington Bakerloo reopens.

Think I've got 130 for the old one; As above, only at Mile End go straight to Embanment without Liverpool Street, and at Holborn go to KCSP  Liverpool Street  Bank.

Nope, you've passed through both Moorgate and KCSP twice - KCSP  Liverpool Street  Bank  Euston!!!

With the new Tube TfL Services Map including the Tramlink, I thought I'd see how many I can get including that. The answer is.... 171!

Epping  Woodford  Stratford  Romford  Upminster  West Ham  Canning Town (by DLR) Canary Wharf  Poplar  Shadwell  West Croydon  East Croydon  Wimbledon  Earl's Court  Ealing Broadway  Shepherd's Bush  Willesden Junction  Baker Street (including Paddington (B)) Charing Cross  Tottenham Court Road  Liverpool Street  KCSP  Finsbury Park (by Picc) Highbury & Islington  Westminster  London Bridge  Stockwell  Victoria  South Kensington  Green Park  Bond Street  Notting Hill Gate  Edgware Road.

Note this might be 175, as I added Queensway  NHG  Edgware Road at the end after playing around to try and get more than the 133 I originally had!

West Croydon is two separate stations, so all the Tramlink does is make the Wimbledon finish extremely long.

Well that's annoying!
