The cable car, unlike LO or DLR, is not a rail-based mode of transport.

It depends on the definition of the challenge. If it's all modes on the Tube Map, then the cable car must be included as it is a mode on the tube map, fruitless gimmick or not.

For the record, when the eastern end of the Jubilee Line is out of action for whatever reason, it's actually extremely helpful as a means of crossing the river to access the DLR etc., and I would argue therefore holds credibility as a mode of transport for that reason alone.

It's effectively an RRB then (running at all times though)?

stepneygreen05 wrote: 07 Aug 2020, 16:25 Depends on whether you see the cable car as a fruitless gimmick or a legit and useful mode of transport. I see it as a tourist attraction, others may beg to differ.
For VAT purposes, anything you can board at one point and disembark (and leave the station) somewhere else counts as public transport and is not liable for VAT (which includes the majority of heritage railways).

So by that definition, the cable car counts as public transport (but the MailRail ride in the Postal Museum does not).

As a variation on this 'All Modes' challenge:

The Cross London Challenge

Starting at Moor Park (the only station on the edge of Zone 6) travel into Zone 1, then back out to Zone 6.

The following modes of transport must be used:

All 11 LU lines
Overground
Tramlink
DLR
Bus
National Rail (any operator)
Cable Car
Thames Clipper

The finishing point must be either
(a) the last station on any line prior to that line crossing the Zone 6 outer boundary; or
(b) a branch terminus in Zone 6.

Would we be allowed to go beyond Zone 6?

If you wanted to - just as you're allowed to go outside Zone 2 on an R15.

Trying to work out why you'd want to - I guess you'd be going up to Watford and across to the Overground. Hadn't thought of that one!

Nah - Watford underground to Watford Junction is far too long. Was thinking Rickmansworth then Chiltern train for quicker way into town.

Doesn't the cable car stop at 9pm?

Ultimate Zone 1 (Truly insane) -

Zone 1, but Parks Challenge style i.e. get out and take a photo of the roundel outside every station.

P.S. This one occured to me after loads of my friends asking me if one has to get out at every station on a Tube Challenge.

The actual catching the tube element slows you down, it feels like it would be quicker to run between the majority of stations!

It probably is, but you'd still need to allow for a lot of running up and down escalators, plus catching far more trains than a normal Zone 1.

how about the 61 stations shown within the "london" area on the back of the london and south east rail map. its not as bad (long) as it initially seems
