So, RJSRdg, when I was getting off at St. Pancras and you said you had 2 stations to go, I thought you'd be doing the same as me, but you'd already done Drayton Park!

Anyone an expert on the tangled web that is TfL fares?

I've noticed that my Oyster was capped at £9.80 on Saturday, the normal price for zones 1-4, but I had no touches in or out in Zone 4.
It was capped at the zones 1-3 price of £8.00 until Bow Road, then Bow Road to Willesden Junction (with OSIs between Clapham High Street / Claphan North and Balham LU / NR) was charged an extra £1.50. A final £0.30 brought the cap up to £9.80. It looks like the £1.50 was not actually triggered until the last leg of Balham NR to Willesden Junction.
There is no indication that it could be maximum journey time - it was 15:24 to 17:07, 103 minutes, and maximum journey time within zones 1&2 is 110 minutes.

Then again I thought I might be in trouble with the Hammersmith situation - the touch in/out log is
13:29 Touch in, Kew Gardens
13:50 Touch out, Hammersmith (District / Piccadilly lines)
13:51 Touch in, Hammersmith (Circle, H&C lines)
14:13 Touch out, Hammersmith (Circle, H&C lines)
14:15 Touch in, Hammersmith (District, Piccadilly lines)
14:58 Touch out, Bank
i.e. the two lines in bold are a touch-in and touch-out at the same station, which I thought was a no-no.
PS. I took the chance to touch-out and back in at Bank before changing to the DLR to avoid exceeding maximum journey time.
PPS. Even though it is a common challenge interchange, it doesn't appear that Chiswick Park to Gunnersbury is an OSI.

Never mind, according to https://www.oyster-rail.org.uk/same-sta ... ion-exits/, with less 30 minutes between touch-in and touch-out, you are charged the cheapest single fare, but that counts to the cap. More than 30 minutes and it's counted as two incomplete journeys.

This might be worth a try after one of the rounds maybe?

The delayed results of round 2 of the 2018/19 Random 15 Championship held on Saturday 17th November 2018.

This was the Champion's Twist round and involved splitting the 15 stations to be visited into two envelopes but from different networks! So, envelope 1 contained LU and DLR and envelope 2 contained NR stations all selected from zones 1-3.

Envelope 1 contained:
--Paddington (Praed Street)
--Shepherd's Bush (LU)
--Vauxhall (LU)
--Hammersmith (H&C)
--West Acton
--Mile End
--All Saints
--Kew Gardens

Envelope 2 contained:
--Queen's Park
--Peckham Rye
--Drayton Park
--Cricklewood
--Wandsworth Common
--Euston (NR)
--Walthamstow Central (LO)

The time limit was 6 hours but proved difficult for most teams to achieve. So I ranked each team by the number of stations they managed to complete followed by the time.

14th: Felix Andrew and Max Shepherd: 11 stations completed in 05:18:?? at Cricklewood
13th: Rob Lomas: 12 stations completed in 05:36:36 at Euston NR
12th: Das Stevens: 12 stations completed in 05:00:07 at Euston NR
11th: Alex & Simon Kneller: 13 stations completed in 05:40:29 at Euston NR
10th: Richard Standing: 13 stations completed in 05:34:45 at West Hampstead TL
9th: Michael Churchill: 14 stations completed in 06:00:20 at Drayton Park
8th: Nick Gardner: 14 stations completed in 05:50:37 at Peckham Rye
7th: Peter Smyth: 14 stations completed in 05:49:58 Walthamstow Central
6th: Tangy: 14 stations completed in 05:47:38 at Wandsworth Common (but I did carry on to complete all 15 in a time of 06:15:02)
5th: Clive Burgess and Samuel Mills: 14 stations completed in 05:45:50 at Cricklewood
=3rd: Kevin Brown and Andrew Baker: All 15 stations completed in 05:52:02 at St. James Street
=3rd: Andrew Chilcraft: All 15 stations completed in 05:52:02 at St. James Street
=1st: Hugo Marrow: All 15 stations completed in 05:45:30 at Peckham Rye
=1st: David Edwards: All 15 stations completed in 05:45:30 at Peckham Rye

The 2018/19 leaderboard after round 2 looks like this:

1. David Edwards: 22 points overall [2 rounds attended]
2=. Clive Burgess: 18 [2]
2=. Hugo Marrow: 18 [2]
4. Andrew Baker: 16 [2]
5=. Kevin Brown: 14 [2]
5=. Andrew Chilcraft: 14 [2]
7. Tangy: 13 [2]
8. Mike Townley: 8 [1]
9=. Peter Smyth: 6 [2]
9=. Damian Cook: 6 [1]
9=. Matthew Cook: 6 [1]
9=. Samuel Mills: 6 [1]
13=. Rob Lomas: 3 [2]
13=. Nick Gardner: 3 [1]
15. Michael Churchill: 2 [2]
16=. Richard Standing: 1 [2]
16=. Simon Kneller: 1 [2]
16=. Alex Kneller: 1 [2]
19=. Das Stevens: 0 [2]
19=. Felix Andrew: 0 [2]
19=. Max Shepherd: 0 [2]
19=. Andi James: 0 [1]
19=. Rhys Jackson: 0 [1]

The next round is on Saturday 12th January 2019.

I'm a little confused by this one - how, given a 6 hour time limit, has a time outside of this limit been accepted? Or was a dispensation given for its closeness to the limit? Doesn't impact me in the slightest, but just found it a bit strange! :mrgreen:

Fully explained in my post...
michael_churchill wrote: 19 Nov 2018, 10:44 I still had a chance to squeeze in one more station. Victoria to Highbury & Islington, then the Great Northern to Drayton Park which left at 1828 and arrived at Drayton Park at 1830 (and 20 seconds according to my watch). I was on that train before the six hour time limit expired and Drayton Park was the next stop after it expired so I could still claim 14 stations!
As clarified earlier in this thread, if the train had stopped at any other stations before Drayton Park after 1830, I could only have claimed 13 stations.

It makes no difference to the final standings anyway as I would have otherwise claimed 13 stations in about 5hr 31min and still been in ninth place. (I was on the same train as Richard Standing out of Cricklewood, but he had to stop his watch at West Hampstead as he hadn't arrived at Cricklewood by train, whereas I did.)

Rule 14 states: "There is a time limit for a “normal” Random 15 challenge of 4 hours. If you are still challenging once 4 hours has ticked by then stop the clock at the next station the train you are on stops at (or if you are at a station, then stop straightaway) and head to the post challenge meet point. “Twist” rounds will have an applicable amount of extra time added, as advised by the Organiser in advance of the challenge".

This is in line with GWR rules with regards to stopping the clock when the doors open at a station. Michael's time expired when he was in between stations, so kept his stopwatch going until the next station at which the train he was on stopped at, which happened to be Drayton Park (so could claim Drayton Park legally as his 14th station).
