Random 15 Championship 2018/19: Round 1

Post by tangy »

Avast me hearties, with a month to go time to hoist the mainsail and get this vessel this back onto the choppy waters...SQUAWK!

Hello and welcome to the 2018/19 Random 15 Championship. I am your host (commonly known to regulars as the BERC when I am hosting Random 15 challenges). The Random 15 Challenge is just that, visit 15 randomly selected stations that feature on the Tube Map and/or London Connections Map (usually within zones 1-2 and using the Underground network only). There will be certain rounds within the championship that are a variation of this such as adding an extra zone/s or network/s e.g. DLR, National Rail onto the challenge and these are known as "twist" rounds.

The rules of the Random 15 Challenge are unchanged from last season but if anyone is not familiar with these (or how the scoring works), they can be read here: http://www.explorerticket.co.uk/tubecha ... 5rules.htm

A new season beckons, so we all start afresh. All league table points are reset to zero.

Normally, round 1 is the Champion's Twist, however due to the annual Cannon Street Run (Talk Like a Pirate Day) being a Random 15 this year and to avoid having two Random 15s within days of each other, we have decided that this random 15 will combine the two events. Therefore the Champion's Twist will be deferred to round 2.

When: Saturday 22nd September 2018 12:30 UK local time.
Pre-Challenge meet up point: Cannon Street (of course)
Post challenge meet up point: The Bricklayers Arms pub, Gresse Street (off TCR, the road).
Variant: Normal round. 15 London Underground stations within zones 1 and 2 only.
Time limit for completing: Normal round, 4 hour time limit.

Closures affecting the challenge:
--Currently there is NO scheduled engineering work planned on any TfL rail mode of transport.

Other engineering work that may affect you:
--West Anglia: No trains via Tottenham Hale (diversions via Seven Sisters).
--South Eastern: No trains via Bexleyheath, reduced service London Bridge- Lewisham.

All welcome, Please advise me if you are attending. Thank you.

Tangy

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

Bexley parkrun?

Bexleyheath has rail replacement bus that weekend so Bexley parkrun not easy to get to without lots of changes.
TfL reckon 1h. 33 mins travel from Padd.

You said you and Daz may attend and go Mile End. I’ve done that one three times so will probably look for one I’ve not done before.

Not sure if I've asked this before, apologies if I have. It won't make a lot of difference anyway...

Is Cannon Street one of the 15 or is it just a ceremonial starting point and not automatically one of the 15 (although it randomly could be)?

Cannon Street, I believe, is one of the 15.

Recommendation for parkrun from person who doesn't do them - Foots Cray Meadows with The Tailor's Chalk Sidcup as spoons? It's silly to do an R15 from Cannon Street and then a parkrun from somewhere without a rail connection into Cannon Street...
All London buses: 23 hours 25 minutes (with Adham, David, Josh and Tangy)
Holds some alternative challenge records. Not sure which ones.
