Random 15 Championship 2016/17: Round 6

Post by tangy »

Hello and welcome to the 2016/17 Random 15 Championship. I am your host (commonly known to regulars as the BERC when I am hosting Random 15 challenges). The Random 15 challenge is just that, visit 15 randomly selected stations that feature on the Tube Map and/or London Connections Map (usually within zones 1-2 and using the Underground network only). There will be certain rounds within the championship that are a variation of this such as adding an extra zone/s or network/s e.g. DLR, National Rail onto the challenge and these are known as "twist" rounds.

The rules of the Random 15 Challenge are unchanged from last season but if anyone is not familiar with these (or how the scoring works), they can be read here: http://www.explorerticket.co.uk/tubecha ... 5rules.htm

The 2016/17 season reaches its climax, yes, the sixth and final round. So here is the vital details for you:

When: Saturday 3rd June 2017 12:30 UK local time.
Pre-Challenge meet up point: Kensington Olympia- meet by the buffer stops on the District Line platform.
Post challenge meet up point: The Bricklayers Arms pub, Gresse Street (off TCR, the road).
Variant: Round 6 is a normal round. Therefore only Underground stations within zones 1 and 2 will be included.
Time limit for completing: As this is a normal round, the time limit to complete is 4 hours.

Line and station closures affecting the challenge:

Circle: Closed Edgware Road (Circle)- Aldgate via Victoria
Crossrail: Closed Liverpool Street- Stratford (and beyond Chadwell Heath). Greater Anglia making extra calls.
District: Closed Embankment- West Ham
DLR: Closed Bow Church- Stratford
H&C: Closed Liverpool Street- Barking (diverted to Aldgate)
Overground- West Anglia: Closed Hackney Downs- Chingford

c2c Rail: No trains to/from Liverpool Street, all to/from Fenchurch Street via West Ham
Thameslink: No service Blackfriars- London Bridge (through trains diverted via Elephant).

Lancaster Gate: Station closed for refurbishment (pass through accepted)
London Bridge (NR): Trains to/from Cannon Street unable to call at London Bridge. Southern and trains to/from Charing X calling as normal.
Whitechapel: Station closed. East London line trains NOT stopping.

Who will be crowned Random 15 Champion for this season?

The first round is traditionally in September (either the 9th or 16th I would imagine) and the second round is the same weekend as Children in Need (which I am 90% sure is 18th November). Tangy will confirm the first 3 rounds for next year's championship shortly after the last round of this year's one so everyone has plenty of time to organise travel, accommodation, etc.

The generator seems to have a liking to Kensington Olympia for some reason, the third round in a row it has appeared. Therefore, as can be implied this is the start station for round 6. Meet by the buffer stops on the District line platform.

As we will presumably all be on the same first train, I suggest we start the watches and open the envelopes on the train as the doors close at Olympia just to make it a bit different.

Oops, think I copied the wrong list. I'll second Peter's idea of an on-train start. Off train start is just going to give everyone extra planning time.

To clarify, by the rules of Random 15, we won't have visited Olympia if we leave on a Overground train !?! Unless you come back on a District later! Because this is a normal Underground only round.
