Which was my point - I understood you were looking for a route from the South Coast to London which didn't involve either going via Basingstoke or going on Southern (the Brighton line and the Arun Valley line).michael_churchill wrote:It's any train that passes through Basingstoke which that doesn't?RJSRdg wrote:What about SWT from Portsmouth via Guildford?
...erm, quick Realtime Trains check shows Weymouth - Waterloo trains are diverted from Southampton Central via Fareham, Havant and Guildford before resuming line of route at Woking. For example, the 0930 from Southampton Central to Waterloo arrives at Clapham Junction at 1125.michael_churchill wrote:For the information of others who would be coming from the south coast or the south-west, there is engineering works around Basingstoke that weekend!
You can question my commitment if you like, but if it involves 40 minutes on a replacement bus (between Winchester and Basingstoke) or relying on Southern to get me to Victoria, sorry, I'm going to give it a miss.

But as my profile shows, I'm from Southampton. Who knows what might befall me catching a train in Portsmouth.RJSRdg wrote:Which was my point - I understood you were looking for a route from the South Coast to London which didn't involve either going via Basingstoke or going on Southern (the Brighton line and the Arun Valley line).michael_churchill wrote:It's any train that passes through Basingstoke which that doesn't?RJSRdg wrote:What about SWT from Portsmouth via Guildford?
I meant the engineering works usually are planned far in advance hence if the Tosa gave us more time we be able to get cheap accommodation if unable to work around rail disruptions.Going Underground wrote:Ehpalkanetoijala31 wrote:another plain example why this championship has gone downhill people in London can't react to unknown circumstances
I think you are just looking for an excuse to moan. As has already been said there are still direct trains from Southampton and Bournemouth that weekend via a different route.palkanetoijala31 wrote:I meant the engineering works usually are planned far in advance hence if the Tosa gave us more time we be able to get cheap accommodation if unable to work around rail disruptions.Going Underground wrote:Ehpalkanetoijala31 wrote:another plain example why this championship has gone downhill people in London can't react to unknown circumstances
