Random 15 Championship 2016/17: Round 2

Post by tangy »

Hello and welcome to the 2016/17 Random 15 Championship. I am your host (commonly known to regulars as the BERC when I am hosting Random 15 challenges). The Random 15 challenge is just that, visit 15 randomly selected stations that feature on the Tube Map and/or London Connections Map (usually within zones 1-2 and using the Underground network only). There will be certain rounds within the championship that are a variation of this such as adding an extra zone/s or network/s e.g. DLR, National Rail onto the challenge and these are known as "twist" rounds.

The rules of the Random 15 Challenge are unchanged from last season but if anyone is not familiar with these (or how the scoring works), they can be read here: http://www.explorerticket.co.uk/tubecha ... 5rules.htm

The 2016/17 season continues with round 2. So here is the vital details for you:

When: Saturday 19th November 2016 12:30 UK local time.
Pre-Challenge meet up point: Victoria LU (on concourse near the top of the Victoria line escalators).
Post challenge meet up point: The Bricklayers Arms pub, Gresse Street (off TCR, the road).
Variant: Round 2 is a "normal" no twists zones 1 and 2 LU only round, however this will be a live draw, therefore challengers will pick the stations to be visited out of a bucket on the day. To allow this process to happen, please be at the meet up point 10 minutes before so that the challenge can start on time.
Time limit for completing: This a "normal" round, therefore the time limit is the standard 4 hours.

Line and station closures affecting zones 1 and 2:

Circle: Closed throughout.
District: Closed Embankment- Dagenham East.
Greater Anglia: No service via Tottenham Hale, trains diverted via Seven Sisters.
H&C: Closed Liverpool Street- Barking (trains are diverted to Aldgate).
Overground- GOBLIN: Closed throughout.
Thameslink: No service Blackfriars- London Bridge

Acton Main Line: Station closed (trains non stopping)
Lambeth North: Station closed for lift refurbishment (pass through accepted).
London Bridge (NR): Trains to/from Cannon Street unable to call London Bridge. Trains to/from Charing Cross and all Southern trains terminating at London Bridge are using the station as normal.
Whitechapel: Station closed (East London line trains non-stopping).

Hope to see you there. Everyone welcome.

Might be a bit difficult at Victoria to find somewhere we can do a live draw without getting in everyone's way?

Does the live draw mean that Victoria may not / probably won't be one of the 15, so the start meeting point is arbitrary?

No, the start station is one of the 15, so we will only be drawing another 14 stations.

My mutiny Random 15 had a Victoria start, and I found the Circle/District Line ticket hall was quieter than the Victoria Line ticket hall.

If I can suggest for the Canons Park Spoons - the JJ Moon, next to Kingsbury Station?

Last year the live draw round was a Camden Town start! So compared to that Victoria should be a bit easier...

I shall probably make an effort to turn up, but the leg pain situation's got complicated, so I might have to take it gently.

For the information of others who would be coming from the south coast or the south-west, there is engineering works around Basingstoke that weekend!
You can question my commitment if you like, but if it involves 40 minutes on a replacement bus (between Winchester and Basingstoke) or relying on Southern to get me to Victoria, sorry, I'm going to give it a miss.
