Hi there,

I was thinking of completing the challenge in early May... from what I can read, the Goblin won't close until June.

Does that sound correct?

Yes, it is. So, if you don't do it in the next couple of months, you'll have a bit of a wait!

A note from the adjudicator:

The Overground challenge will be suspended during the closure of the GOBLIN for electrification works. Therefore the last day (for this year) that the challenge can be attempted is Friday 3rd June 2016. After this date, no challenge attempt will be accepted until the GOBLIN fully re-opens in February 2017.

So if you are planning an attempt you have just under 2 months to attempt it before the closure of the GOBLIN.

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

And hopefully they won't do it on the last day, a that is the day of R15 Round 5!

No, Round 5 is Saturday 4th. It's the Z1 challenge which is on 3rd.

Seeing as I've finally put together a route that DOESN'T end in Zone 2 (hopefully the timings will work, otherwise back to the drawing board), I shall probably be attempting this in the next few weeks. This challenge is always fun!!

If possible with your route timings (it's what I did last time), touch in with an Oyster before going up to Watford (at Euston, Willesden Junction or wherever you board the train up north) then out again once you've made it back to Z1-6; do this when you're off to Cheshunt too! That way you'll only have to pay for a Z1-6 travelcard.

FYI, according to http://www.psul4all.free-online.co.uk/2016.htm, since the timetable change on 16 May, the three weekday trains are
0618 Battersea Park – Dalston Junction
2303 Battersea Park – Dalston Junction
2206 Dalston Junction - Battersea Park
i.e. the two late trains are earlier

A Slightly-reduced Overground Challenge

Post by RobbieM »

Tomorrow (Tuesday), my friend Mike is planning to do a slightly-reduced Overground Challenge. (With the GOBLIN part-closed, this chunk will need to be missed out, and as Battersea Park is not shown on the Tube map as being served by Overground, he’s letting this one pass…)

Why am I mentioning this? Well, Mike has been the Director of London Overground for the last few years, but he is moving onto other things at the end of this week. And, partly-inspired by my stories of Tube Challenging etc., he has decided he would like to do an Overground challenge before he leaves the job!

So he’s got his timetablers to work, and should be heading out of Richmond tomorrow morning around 8am, and expecting to finish around 7:30pm at Highbury and Islington.

All the best, Mike! :D I’ll report back on his achievements when I hear.

A Slightly-reduced Overground Challenge

Last report at 12:01pm - Mike was just leaving Liverpool St for Enfield Town, running perfectly according to schedule. If there are any delays on the Overground today, I guess he is the man to get the network back to normal quickly! :D
