Sub-Surface Challenge 2016

Post by agerj001 »

Hi Guys! I recently came up with a new challenge idea recently - the Sub surface challenge! In which you must visit all of the stations on the circle, district, hammersmith & city and metropolitan lines. I'm planning on a event for this next year either at the end of January or start of February. Please come along and let me know what day would be best (will have to be a Saturday though). :D

Due to the frequent Sub Surface closures these days:
- 2nd January is out due to H&C to Hammersmith closure
- 9th January is out due to Random 15
- 16th January is out due to Metropolitan south of Harrow blockade
- 23rd January is out due to the same
- 30th January is doable
- 6th February is out due to H&C to Hammersmith closure
- 13th February is out due to District blockade east of KCSP/Tower Hill
- 20th February is possible if you allow Jubilee Line visits to Finchley Road to count (which I think would be cheating)
- 27th February is doable (though you won't have Piccadilly Line Uxbridge branch which will probably affect things)

So it would best be the 30th of January. As for the challenge itself, I can see two things already without even touching a tube map:

- Chesham/Amersham start, Upminster finish (that final crawl will take ages)
- A LOT of doubling back

Holds some alternative challenge records. Not sure which ones.

I'm not sure there's as much doubling back as you might think if you use another line at one stage (maybe not a lot in it, but perhaps enough to gain a train).

Unfortunately I think all my Saturdays in Jan and Feb are likely to be taken up with the model railway exhibition season!

Well, it was definitely running on Sunday.

Ken O would be a pain, but not the pain it is on weekdays. Also, no MHE/Central Line loop.

First bash at a route:

Chesham  Chalfont  Amersham  Moor Park  Watford  Wembley Park  Uxbridge  West Drayton (by 222 bus) or North Ealing (by Piccadilly) Ealing Broadway (FGW or run respectively) Ravenscourt Park  Richmond  Putney  East Putney  Wimbledon  Edgware Road  Hammersmith  Aldgate East  Aldgate  Finchley Road  Aldgate  Aldgate East  Upminster.

This would end up being extremely boring.

Just had a play at a potential route - nowhere near as complicated as the one listed above - which comes out at 07:36 - unfortunately a lot of time is lost early on with connections at the top end of the Met. There's also a tight connection at EB - but it might be possible to miss that and still make the same time if a quick change can be made elsewhere.

Hi Guys,

This challenge will be postponed until further notice due to other commitments. I hope to have an event though by the end of the year.

Many Thanks
