Crossrail challenge
The section of Crossrail between Liverpool Street and Shenfield is apparently opening in May 2015. I'm up for getting the record!

Re: Crossrail challenge
Don't forget, you must visit Liverpool Street on by Crossrail, not the underground!
Actually, when Crossrail does start, will we have Crossrail services starting from both the underground and surface stations at Liverpool Street and Paddington, and how will this affect the challenge?
We should have a Thameslink Challenge.

Re: Crossrail challenge
It should be a TfL Rail Challenge (Overground + Crossrail + DLR + Tramlink). Should be possible in a day?

Re: Crossrail challenge
Wouldn't TfL Rail contain the Underground as well? Might be a bit harder as the Lea Valley Lines are being thrown into the mix, remember? These are the things that are going through my head at this:
- Reading start would make ticketing easier, I would be surprised if it was given a zone, being 40 miles away and 30 minutes at HST speeds
- Probably best to split them up a bit - perhaps do the DLR in one go
- Good non-challenge trains might be Lewisham to Elmers End, fast services to Watford Junction and Shenfield, Wimbledon SWT service, Abbey Wood to Woolwich Arsenal/Greenwich, the odd tube service
- New Cross I could see being a pain (a possible gambit could have been Whitechapel Crossrail eastbound to LO northbound, then at some point Shadwell (from DLR) Clapham Junction, then later on London Bridge (perhaps from Waterloo and Wimbledon) New Cross NXG and south, but New Cross must be visited by LO)
- Good buses might be Ponders End to Chingford (313), Enfield Town to Southbury (121, 191, 307, 313), Clapton to Dalston Kingsland (488)
- Stratford Shenfield Romford Upminster Barking and towards Gospel Oak
- Assuming Battersea Park policy as with LO, this will throw yet another spanner into the overly complicated works
- Liverpool Street will be crazy
- What will happen to the 0531 Liverpool Street to Enfield Town
- Lea Bridge - will this be an LO station

Re: Crossrail challenge
TfL Rail starts on Sunday May 31st, as are 'Crossrail' trains from Shenfield to Liverpool Street. That's the same day that the Overground gets added to Liverpool Street to Enfield, Cheshunt, etc... yes.
But also!
Romford - Emerson Park - Upminster, is also being added to the Overground network! A new tiny spur of orange.
Which ... is gonna mess up the map isn't it? And an Overground challenge of any sorts, just - something else to consider ...

Romford - Upminster will appear on the tube map, but won't be orange. They are splitting the Overground into separate lines with different colours and names from May.

Re: Crossrail challenge
Hmm...
I'm hoping they'll give them the names they already have. I'm fed up of mentioning the North London Line in conversation with Camden/Gospel Oak/Willesden/Hackney-based friends, them looking at me in utter confusion and it taking them a few seconds to twig I'm talking about "The Overground".
Lea Valley Lines - perhaps LEVELs (LEa VallEy Lines)
GOBLIN must remain GOBLIN, and people must know it as such (if possible, even more aggravating than the NLL situation)
NLL/WLL and ELL/SLL naming conventions could be improved
Watford DC could have a renaming
Rominster or Upminford? Or the Romerson Parkminster? Alternatives include Eminster, Romerson, Upmerson, Emerford, that silly little thing...

Re: Crossrail challenge
For the Overground.
Not sure names have been finalised yet, but it is safe to say "North London Line" and "East London Line" will be two of them. WLL+SLL will just be branches rather than a line in their own right.

Re: Crossrail challenge
Thank god for that. People referring to the WLL has always felt quite odd, given that it is just a branch of the NLL. People referring to the SLL, not so much, because it was a separate South London Line service right up until 2012.greatkingrat wrote:Not sure names have been finalised yet, but it is safe to say "North London Line" and "East London Line" will be two of them. Anyway, how about:
Rominster: single orange line
NLL: double orange line
GOBLIN: triple orange line
ELL: quadruple orange line
Lea Valleys: five orange lines
Watford DC: six orange lines
Crossrail: as many purple lines as you feel like (calling it TfL Rail is being a sheep, an unthinking member of the masses, we all know it's Crossrail)
