I won't be starting at 1015, but have no objection if you want to make it a 1015-1045 window to start in.

OK will go with that and just a reminder there are no "re-starts" so once the watch is in operation and photo taken there is no going back if you miss your planned departure....greatkingrat wrote:I won't be starting at 1015, but have no objection if you want to make it a 1015-1045 window to start in.

Re: Christmas Park Challenge 2014 - Sat 13th Dec
Actually, it's all a little up in the air, because my family (read younger siblings) would like to go on the Dangleway very early and get their hands on a The Snowman goodie bag despite desperate attempts at discouragement, so my participation may be suspended if I am forced to join them. No pun intended.
If they don't, however, I will be there. I might do some timing at Belsize Park - how long does it take to run down the stairs compared to how long it takes for a train to arrive? You know, this would be best done with a wingman to hold the lift doors, but I don't have one of those.

Just to warn everyone - it is the 3rd longest staircase on the network behind Hampstead and Covent Garden.

It's not far behind Covent Garden (193) either (it has 189). I would as a benchmark (I don't think anyone actually climbs that Covent Garden staircase) suggest Russell Square (171).
I'd still say it was faster to use the stairs, if you are fast on them. If I recall correctly, the lift doors take ages to close after somebody passes through them.

I'm going to come and make a leisurely attempt at this.
My only aim will be completion. Most likely reason for failure: camera-phone dying.
See you there.

Not even going to look at above as I don't believe routes should be discussed or published in advance, remember the pub after last R15

Not that I will be taking part, but I also feel that routes should not be revealed until AFTER the event has taken place

Well, I have a route and glanced at the above route. I'm only willing to disclose the following:
1. My route and the above route diverge at the first train, if not before.
2. The word 'run' appears far less frequently in my route.
So, I'll stick with what I've got.

I'm willing to team up with someone, if there is such a someone who is willing to team up with me. I will even disclose that my starting station will be Belsize Park, that I shall be visiting Elm Park on the District Line, and that I shall leave Moor Park station during the challenge to take a photo.
Has anyone thought of investing in a "selfie stick"? How much time would they save?
Also, how many challengers have done Stonebridge Park Park Royal via Hanger Lane on the 112? I know I have, but how many others?

This sums up my frustration with route planning now.tractakid wrote:Green flipping Park

Re: Christmas Park Challenge 2014 - Sat 13th Dec
I have an 07:31:xx, which looks worryingly tight in places, such as at one of the interchanges planned at a station with Park in the name.
I would not want to run Stonebridge Pk to Park Royal. I did it in 15 (0655 arr Stonebridge Park, 0657 dep on 112 bus, 0704 arr Hanger Lane, 0710 arr Park Royal) once, but all the way? Nope, especially with that extremely high up bridge next to the Grand Union Canal (that's a lot of stairs and a lot of CO2).
Also, this will be the first time I enter/exit/interchange at Chiswick Park, Elm Park, Upton Park, Westbourne Park, Wimbledon Park and Woodside Park. And Canons Park, which is an embarrassment and one I hope to rectify as soon as possible (I have done both Edgware-Stanmore and Harrow and Wealdstone-Stanmore, though - the latter is quite a long bus ride and not recommended for the sane Tube Challenger).
