RailUK challenge and pre-parkrun

Post by tractakid »

I am planning to attend this: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=105331 (need to be registered and possibly have posts to view thread, I think) which meets at St Pancras at 11:00

I am definitely up for a parkrun beforehand. Burgess has caught my eye, but suggest away for other options too! Don't have to be attending the challenge to join for the pre-parkrun, of course.

Burgess looks OK to get to. Course looks a bit confusing though!

Once the rules are announced I can post them here for anyone interested who isn't on their forum. Believe it will be a bit like an R15, you will have to visit as many stations on a list as possible within the time limit.

Quizzes and games subforum don't count towards post totals, so you have 2 posts on the counter.

http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread. ... ost1949964

Date: Saturday 8th November 2014
Meeting Point: By the main statue at St Pancras station (upper level) / London end of Eurostar platforms, at 1100
Start Time: 1130
Finish Time: 1730
Defined Area: London Zones 1-6 Travelcard area
Ticket(s) Required: Zones 1-6 Off-Peak Day Travelcard (Oyster PAYG is not recommended for this activity)
Start Location: St Pancras
Finish Location: King's Cross, outside FCC gateline
Bonus Station(s): See below
Organiser: bb21
First Contact: Mojo
Second Contact: bb21

The much-anticipated challenge will take the form of an American-style bingo game.

The following rules apply in addition to our normal challenge rules:

Each team will receive three bingo cards, two of which will be common ones across all teams, and the third will be drawn randomly on the day of the challenge.
Usual criteria for scoring stations apply. Only stations shown on your cards may score.
Points are awarded as follows:
Each completed card scores 100 points;
Each completed row of six stations on incomplete cards scores 10 points;
Each completed major diagonal on incomplete cards (of which there are two scoring opportunities per card) scores 15 points;
Each additional station which does not form part of a completed card, row, or diagonal scores 1 point;
With the exception of points awarded for individual stations, completed columns do not score any additional points;
In the event of a tie on the final score, teams will be ranked by, in order of preference, the total number of cards completed, the total number of diagonals completed, the total number of rows completed, the total number of stations scored, and should all the above measures still result in a tie, the teams concerned shall be ranked in the order of arrival at the Finish Location.

The complete list of stations is attached in the pdf document below, please ensure that your team has access to a copy on the day of the challenge. This document will not be provided on the day.

The two common bingo cards are also attached to facilitate planning. These will be provided on the day of the challenge.

It would be appreciated if you could ensure that the doodle entries are up-to-date.

Happy planning.

I agree that simpler is better.

The crux of the challenge is "visit as many stations on these cards as possible within the time limit". Bonus points are awarded for rows, diagonals, and for the whole 6x6 square.

So, is anyone going?

They're handing you the stations beforehand, I see.

2/3 of the stations. It seems like the last third will be different for each team, unless they change their mind. That seems a bit unfair.

I'll go regardless.

Not joining us at Burgess then? And Harlow Town-Seven Sisters is only 22 minutes so you could get the 1017 and make it to St Pancras in plenty of time!

Yes but then I would have to go back to Harlow to get my car which I don't really fancy TBH + Burgess isn't an inaugural :wink:

It's quite probable that the parkrun site will remove documentation of inaugurals in the future.
