Rule clarification: can we pass through a station and not count it, even if it contains the next letter needed- in order to save it for later?

So, it seems you guys are doing the Alternative Alphabet Challenge. Hooray!

I guess I'm not the final arbiter, but it was my intention that you could choose to pass through a station and not count it.

Sadly, I can't make it to this event. It'll be interesting to see the times.

Yes that's absolutely fine as long you have 26 different stations for your letters you go can go back and forth as much as you like :P

I can't be there for the evening of the challenge, but I shall try it out in the morning (starting at Cannon Street and all), and give you a benchmark time. No route until later, though. Me booty be well protected.

Arrr, here be the new record time for the Alternative Alphabet Challenge - 02:09:21, setting sail at the port of Cannon Street and voyaging across 9 seas and over 24 ports to dock at the port of Belsize Park. The Bakerloo was particularly choppy today. Details of the voyage will be held back until the challenge is completed tonight.

But be I scurvy landlubber or fearsome pirate? Will Peg Leg Pete or Cap'n Kev break the 2 hour barrier?

Cannon Street
Monument
Bank
Holborn
Piccadilly Circus *Bakerloo Suspended*
Green Park
Oxford Circus *Bakerloo Suspended*
Green Park (instead of Regent's Park)
Finchley Road
Baker Street
Euston Square
Euston
Camden Town
Kings Cross St. Pancras
Holborn
Tottenham Court Road
Goodge Street
Leicester Square
Green Park
Stockwell
Green Park
Hyde Park Korner
Green flipping Park
Euston
Camden Town
Belsize Park

I realised on arrival at Russell Square, I really should have gone to Euston Square and ran to Warren Street, then down to Leicester Square as before.

I ran down the same corridor at Green Park 5 times in total during the challenge!

Cannon Street
Monument
Bank
Moorgate
Finchley Road (passing through Barbican, Farringdon and Euston Square)
Willesden Green
Baker Street (passing through West Hampstead, Swiss Cottage and St. John's Wood)
Great Portland Street
Regent's Park
Paddington (passing through Marylebone)
Baker Street (passing through Edgware Road)
Green Park
Leicester Square
South Kensington (passing through Hyde Park Corner and Knightsbridge)
Victoria (passing through Sloane Square)
Warren Street
Oxford Circus
Piccadilly Circus
Oxford Circus
Euston
Belsize Park (via Mornington Crescent, since that was the first Edgware branch train)

That infamous signal at Piccadilly Circus on the Bakerloo was acting up all day, even before the suspension. Did anyone else go out as far as Willesden Green (I went on a WG terminator and had a 3 minute wait there, enough timing to watch it go into the siding)?

I did this challenge on Oyster (one inter-station run in the middle).

Are you sure you ran down the corridor 5 times? I only count 4 changes at Green Park requiring a Victoria-Piccadilly run, the last being Victoria-Jubilee. Vic-Pic run at Green Park which I believe is the second most unpleasant part of the tube. The most unpleasant is the emergency stairs by the Northern lifts at Bank - some poor cleaner has stuck up a notice saying "This is not a toilet. Anyone who urinates here will be DNA tested.".

I don't know why any tube challenger still does that Pic-Vic corridor run at Green Park, there is a quicker way!

Anyway, after initially thinking you could do the alphabet in any order (hence first heading to Stepney Green, to get the Y done) I was put back onto calmer waters by Cap'n Kev who boarded on my return H&C train at Whitechapel.

So after being set on the correct course again I had to think of another voyage literally there and then.

So my route was:

Cannon Street
Stepney Green
Liverpool Street
Bethnal Green (could have done Bank, but the eastbound came first)
Liverpool Street
King's Cross (via Barbican and Farringdon)
Arsenal
Finsbury Park
Highbury & Islington
*bus to Holloway Road*
Holloway Road
King's X St. Pancras
Baker Street
St John's Wood
Baker Street
Paddington (District)
*run to Lancaster Gate*
Lancaster Gate
Marble Arch
Notting Hill Gate
Holland Park
Shepherd's Bush
Queensway
Notting Hill Gate
High Street Ken
Gloucester Road
South Kensington
Sloane Square
Victoria
Westminster
Victoria
Oxford Circus
Green Park
Piccadilly Circus
Leicester Square
Belsize Park

All in a time of 03:19: 14. Although I must win some sort of prize by managing to get on THREE Woodford via Hainault trains on this challenge!!

For the record my route was

Cannon Street
Monument / Bank
Holborn (via Chancery Lane)
Piccadilly Circus (via Covent Garden and Leicester Square)
(Bakerloo line was suspended so got back on Piccadilly)
Green Park
Oxford Circus
Green Park
Knightsbridge
Green park (via Hyde Park Corner)
Westminster
Victoria (via St James Park)
Oxford Circus (via Green Park)
Lancaster Gate
Marble Arch
Shepherd's Bush (via Notting Hill Gate and Holland Park)
Queensway
Notting Hill Gate
Victoria (via High Street Kensington, Gloucester Road, South Kensington and Sloane Square)
Stockwell
Green Park (via Vauxhall)
Leicester Square (via Piccadilly Circus)
Belsize Park

Apart from the Bakerloo problems, I had very good luck, getting a Circle straight away at NHG, and getting an Edgware train on the last leg.
