Random 15 Championship 2013/14: Round 5

Post by The Orange One »

As Tangy has declared that this will be in late March/early April, and we have a twist to pick, perhaps we should start thinking about it?

I propose Glen's different coloured shirts twist.

When travelling on a tube line, you may only wear a shirt the colour of the line you choose to travel on.

For example, light blue on the Victoria, yellow on the Circle, green on the District, grey on the Jubilee, orange on the Overground, orange, red and blue on SWT etc.

I have a multicoloured shirt just waiting to be used.

I did like hopeful traveller's twist idea although it may be too extreme for what people would be looking for...
hopeful traveller wrote:15 minutes before the start, a few people are given the list unlike everybody else, but are not allowed to show it to anyone else. These people would ideally need to be non-participants. They have one objective: to 'intercept' the people on the R15. They will start 15 minutes AFTER everybody else and will attempt to 'hit' the participants (i.e. 'catch' them). If a participant is 'hit', the interceptor may spend up to ten minutes escorting them to any station the interceptor pleases.

Worked example:

If Tom, Dick, and Harry are the interceptors, and Andrew, Robert, Dom, Sam, Mark, Melvin, and Filius are on the R15, this is how it would work. Baker Street is the start station. Tom, Dick, and Harry get the list with 15 minutes to go (12:15), and are not allowed to show it to anyone else, not even themselves. The rest kick off as normal at 12:30. Tom, Dick, and Harry get planning time and do not kick off until 12:45. Let's say that Great Portland Street, Caledonian Road, and Camden Town are on the list. Tom guesses that someone has gone to Camden Town, so heads there from Baker Street to try to 'hit' them, but misses. Dick bumps into Andrew on the subsurface and uses up 10 minutes escorting Andrew to Maida Vale (because it's a pain in the arse for the challenger).

This continues as per normal until the 4 hour time limit is up. Alternatively, Robocop could be retired after 1 or 2 hours.

By your own rules a multi coloured T shirt would not be allowed.

Unfortunately, unless you can drum some people up from nowhere, we don't have enough Tube Challengers for that sort of thing.

Multi-coloured shirts would have to be disallowed, otherwise I'm getting out an old shirt and some felt tip pens.

That said, I don't really like this idea. Too much cost involved.

I know late March/early April was given, but does anyone have a definitive date? My late March/early April is getting booked up fast

Another twist idea - the envelope contains 10 zone 1 stations, worth 1 point, and 10 zone 2 stations worth 2 points. The aim is to visit stations worth 20 points in total, so you could just visit all 10 zone 2 stations, or visit 10 zone 1 + 5 zone 2, or some combination in between.

I am considering all your ideas for twists (good or bad) as well as ones already used previously. As for dates, I will start another thread with a poll attached.

Though, as a more sensible idea than changing shirts every few minutes, how about leymoo's "Banned Stations" twist, where certain stations (not chosen by computer - this could lead to havoc) may NOT be visited?

Or, failing that, I'd like NR again :) I enjoyed NR. Though perhaps a challenge without LO? It's been in Rounds 1 and 3 so far...

I quite like 'Banned Stations'. Should I be used, I don't think it should be combined with NR or LO in order to get the full affect

I like this idea too. Knock out a few key stations (for example, KXSP) and things could get very interesting.

But be careful not to knock out, say, Oxford Circus, Baker Street, Swiss Cottage, West Hampstead, Euston, Goodge Street, Holborn, Leicester Square, Green Park and Marble Arch,

as this would block: Regent's Park, St John's Wood, Warren Street, Tottenham Court Road, Covent Garden and Bond Street and make Finchley Road very difficult.
