SLAM! (suggest dates)

Post by The Orange One »

I propose a SLAM at some point. This challenge was last suggested last time we had the Winter Olympics, so now's perhaps not a bad time to consider reviving it. Now South London has become nice and complicated, with nasty LO everywhere and Woolwich Arsenal running amok, there are 92 stations (29 from the Tube, 38 from Tramlink, 19 from LO and 6 from DLR). Also, for the diehards, there's Battersea Park (making it 93), and Emirates Greenwich Peninsula (making it 94). Just to make things nice and happy.
All London buses: 23 hours 25 minutes (with Adham, David, Josh and Tangy)
Holds some alternative challenge records. Not sure which ones.
20½ Random 15 challenges: 01:58:48 best

Yes, I don't know when - either Easter or July (depending on studies). Someone has to set the benchmark...

Suggest you do South of the Thames and Croydon Tramlink to warm up.

What do you think about the possible inclusion of Battersea Park (the "secret" LO station) and Emirates Greenwich Peninsula?

I'm not too sure about the Emirates Greenwich Peninsula, although North Greenwich would have to be visited at some point and the Emirates Air Line stop is just around the corner from the LU station, so maybe yes. Yes the parliament section of the LO network would be a good inclusion, especially if the SLAM actually includes the LO service that actually goes to/from Battersea Park, however as it's not really considered a part of the LO network I would have to say no

I, of course, would include Battersea Park. It is one of the 84 stations that receives a train service from London Overground.

It's pretty much a more evil version of Olympia.

Well at least Battersea Park can be visited on weekdays.
What about, say, if you were doing some kind of Piccadilly line challenge and you had to visit each of it's stations, would you include Turham Green?

Olympia can also be visited on weekdays. All weekdays. Regular trains from Olympia between 0550 and 0634 iirc, two evening return trips from Olympia to HSK, and may or may not run 2 hourly driver training service to/from Plaistow.

For it to truly be an AM of SLAM then the Dangleway should be included IMO.

So the 94 stations:

Addington Village, Addiscombe, Ampere Way, Anerley, Arena, Avenue Road, Balham, Battersea Park, Beckenham Junction, Beckenham Road, Beddington Lane, Belgrave Walk, Bermondsey, Birkbeck, Blackhorse Lane, Borough, Brixton, Brockley, Canada Water, Centrale, Church Street, Clapham Common, Clapham High Street, Clapham Junction, Clapham North, Clapham South, Colliers Wood, Coombe Lane, Crystal Palace, Cutty Sark (for Maritime Greenwich), Denmark Hill, Deptford Bridge, Dundonald Road, East Croydon, East Putney, Elephant and Castle, Elmers End, Elverson Road, Emirates Greenwich Peninsula, Fieldway, Forest Hill, George Street, Gravel Hill, Greenwich, Harrington Road, Honor Oak Park, Kennington, Kew Gardens, King Henry's Drive, Lambeth North, Lebanon Road, Lewisham, Lloyd Park, London Bridge, Merton Park, Mitcham, Mitcham Junction, Morden, Morden Road, New Addington, New Cross, New Cross Gate, North Greenwich, Norwood Junction, Oval, Peckham Rye, Penge West, Phipps Bridge, Queens Road Peckham, Reeves Corner, Richmond, Rotherhithe, Sandilands, South Wimbledon, Southfields, Southwark, Stockwell, Surrey Quays, Sydenham, Therapia Lane, Tooting Bec, Tooting Broadway, Vauxhall, Waddon Marsh, Wandle Park, Wandsworth Road, Waterloo, Wellesley Road, West Croydon (Overground), West Croydon (Tramlink), Wimbledon, Wimbledon Park, Woodside, Woolwich Arsenal.

There are so many Tramlink stations I'd completely forgotten. West Croydon IS separate Overground & Tramlink. Delete Battersea Park at your leisure. The Dangleway stays in.

Although, technically if you want to do ALL modes, there's around 300 buses, 200 NR stations and a host of riverboat services.

Wish I had done this or an Overground challenge on Tuesday then seeing as the train I was on along with all early afternoon trains via Clapham High Street were diverted to Battersea Park due to a points failure at Clapham Junc.
