Random 15 Championship 2013/14: Round 4

Post by tangy »

Round 4 will be held as part of the 2014 Tube Olympics, therefore this event can be held on Saturday 8th, 15th or 22nd of February, take your pick (or shovel)...

This will be a bog standard "normal" LU only no twists round... except that there will be no envelopes to open at the start of the challenge, instead challengers will draw the stations themselves out of a bucket at the meet point, with these being the 14 stations needed to be visited. As is usual, the meet up point will be station 1 (which will be drawn randomly by a family member).

The clock will start as soon as the 15th station is revealed.

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

In conjunction with the re-scheduling of some Tube Olympics events, the 15th February is no longer in the running (it had the lowest number of votes anyway).

Therefore everyone who has previously voted, can we please vote again for the 8th and/or 22nd February.

Thanks

22nd is well in the lead. Doubt it will swing the other way. 22nd is my preference in terms of personal convenience, should it come on the 8th I have a choice of not attending or letting someone else down

I would be equally happy to come on the eighth as I am with the 22nd with a later start, say around 2pm. Else I have to miss the music group I attend on a Saturday during term time, which I hate missing.

Just an idea, feel free to ignore me.

Engineering closures on both days:

Saturday 8th February
Metropolitan Line: Closed from Harrow on the Hill to Uxbridge, will not affect challenge itself
Northern Line: Closed from Kennington to Morden, will mean Oval and the three Claphams are closed - just like Round 2 :(
Piccadilly Line: Closed from South Harrow to Uxbridge, will not affect challenge itself

Saturday 22nd February
DLR: Closed from Bow Road to Stratford, will not affect challenge itself
Metropolitan Line: Closed from Wembley Park to Uxbridge/Northwood, will not affect challenge much (Met will be less reliable)
Northern Line: Closed from Edgware to Camden Town, will mean Chalk Farm, Belsize Park and Hampstead are closed
London Overground: Closed from RIchmond/Shepherds Bush to Camden Road. Will immensely affect challenge if northern stations crop up. Replacement service will run from Willesden Junction LL to Stratford via South Hampstead and Camden Road (I must try this!). District line remains unaffected by this.
Piccadilly Line: Closed from South Harrow to Uxbridge, will not affect challenge itself
In other news for the 22nd, the Gatwick Express will not be running. Damn. There goes the Amsterdam gambit.
All London buses: 23 hours 25 minutes (with Adham, David, Josh and Tangy)
Holds some alternative challenge records. Not sure which ones.

By the look of the engineering closures, my personal preference would be the 8th as I like the Overground in full health (although I would like to use that special service).

If the 8th is chosen, would there be an objection to a later start by anyone? This is a non twist event so shouldn't be excessively long

I don't think anyone would, though it's tangy's decision - with a 1h30m push forward to 2pm (as suggested earlier) the challenge part will be over by 6pm. With LO fully operational the challenge should have less hiccups.

It seems (if the 8th is picked), that all five Claphams are out of the draw.
