Birthday Challenge V2

Post by tractakid »

The Royal challenge last year...

this year- I choose the National Rail Zone One challenge.

The date- sometime around April 2nd- would like to know people's availability. Has to be a weekday, due to Moorgate and Old Street being closed at weekends.

Required stations:

St Pancras International, King's Cross, Old Street, Moorgate, Hoxton, Shoreditch High Street, Liverpool Street, Farringdon, City Thameslink, London Bridge, Elephant and Castle, Vauxhall, Waterloo, Victoria, Paddington, Euston, Marylebone, Cannon Street, Blackfriars, Charing Cross, Fenchurch Street, Waterloo East.

Starting station- should this be fixed? I am umming and erring either way.

Sorry won't be able to make this one. As I will be in London two weeks later for the Marathon.

I vote we fix the starting station at Acton Main Line.

I propose the date for this gets nailed down soon.

How do the dates 1/3/4 April sound? And what time of day? Haven't done any route planning yet but am definitely expecting more than 3 hours

1st of April please!! To repeat myself, I think we should start at Acton Main Line, though I would not be averse to a start at Wembley Stadium or Harrow-on-the-Hill. Or, indeed, Ealing Broadway, Heathrow Central or Slough, though the last one is pushing it.

April 1st or 3rd is good for me

How about Castle Bar Park or Sudbury & Harrow Road as a starting station?

How would either of those fit into an optimal route?

The first would lead you into Paddington, the latter Marylebone. Although I don't think the service patterns are too frequent there, maybe Wembley Stadium or Acton Main Line/ Ealing Broadway are better choices...

AML/WCX are closer. frequency doesn't matter with the starting station as you can plan for a specific train.

True, I think Wembley Stadium is a good starting point. Interchanges onto Marylebone Chiltern services are few and far between in the NW, so best to get Marylebone done and out of the way to start with...

Yeah, that sounds good.
And I suppose most people will be after an Acton Main Line or Ealing Broadway finish. Know any West London pubs?

I know two very good ones in Harrow (bit far from EB though)...

Important to note that Fenchurch Street has to be done by 2030, c2c are going to Liverpool Street after that.

However that could work in some people's favour if they plan right. You could knock off two stations fairly easily...

It would mean you have to go out as far as Barking though. Better to hit Limehouse and then Westbound DLR.
