The Orange One's attempts

Post by The Orange One »

I decided to do a Zone 1 challenge today (Monday 26th August/Bank Holiday Monday).

It's my first proper tube challenge (there was a kind of R6, except you didn't have to visit by tube - instead you had to take an exterior photo. I didn't actually visit Barbican by train, preferring to run from Moorgate as St. Paul's was also on the list). Final time I recorded was 3h00m25s (just remembering that sinking realisation that I was going to miss the 3 hour barrier on arrival at Marylebone).

Started at Vauxhall ROUTE REMOVED AS HAS WORLD RECORD POTENTIAL - SEE LATER finish at Regent's Park.

I used an Olympia train on this challenge. Bit of an unorthodox move, but saved me some time.

Will be doing an All Lines challenge and a DLR challenge at some point. And catching the last 30 London buses.

I agree that from Aldgate to Aldgate East you can't really get lost, but coming the other way is harder if you come out of the wrong exit without realising it!
Held some Alternative Challenge records for a long time.
Doesn't any more.

I guess the thing to remember would be to be at the back of an eastbound or the front of a westbound and turn left after the barriers. And upon surfacing.

Personally I turn right after the barriers- so are on same side of the main road...

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

I've been past a couple of times on the 25/205, but never noticed an exit on the northern side of the road! I just aimed for what I knew.

Them Circles are stifling.

It's there, hidden under the scaffolding that has been there for ages. This is the original station entrance (the one on the south side of the road is a modern addition).

And an All Lines time. 41m20s - missed a District at Embankment and then a Circle came first. And then a 3 minute wait for the Jubilee. What's all that about?

Route: Farringdon (H&C) Barbican (Met) Moorgate (Cir) Liverpool Street (Cen) Bank (W&C) Waterloo (Nor) Embankment (Dis) Westminster (Jub) Green Park (Vic) Oxford Circus (Bak) Piccadilly Circus (Pic) Leicester Square.

And of course the London Buses time of 5 years and 2 months.

That's a good time for a zone one :)

Glad to see that Glen and I aren't the only ones to fall for the way out escalator at Embankment!

I only fell out on the Zone 1 - the All Lines change I did perfectly, and that was without door positions (my smartphone broke - I had to memorise the starting time at Farringdon).

Also found some money on an Olympia train today. I've only been on an Olympia train twice - the first time it got me a train up at Earl's Court and quite possibly two trains by the end of the Zone 1 - the second time I found some money. Admittedly there could have been money on every single train I've ever caught and this was the time I found it as I was the only person on that train. But I prefer to think that the Greek gods are looking favourably on me. Not favourably enough for me to start a DLR Challenge at Cyprus though.

Well, you'll find that the Greek gods have given 12 points pounds to Cyprus, as usual....

That's all right. You take what Olympia gives you and remember to thank them. Perhaps a new strategy for FNCs - pray to the Greek Gods that Olympia goes well before you start.
