That's the Alphabet Challenge, and it was thought of years ago.

No. The alphabet is ABCD... in order.tubeguru wrote:That's the Alphabet Challenge, and it was thought of years ago.
I propose
the A challenge (all stations containing an A)
the B challenge...
etc
The only interesting thing about this challenge is how you choose to get from Uxbridge to Croxley. Obviously the Victoria line would be used to connect Brixton, Vauxhall and Oxford Circus,

The zzzzz challenge might be a bit boring - how quick can you get from Belsize Park to Belsize Park?

Re: the 5 X's
yes, i thought that the stations with cross in the name would be put forward as "cross" can be shortened to X...
mate of mine texted me yesterday with a small challenge which i knew straight off
the station with no letters of mackerel and the station with no letters of badger,
what are they and how would you get from 1 to the other??
mackerel = st. john's wood
badger = pimlico
route = jubilee to green park, change to the victoria

Re: the 5 X's
There's nothing particularly special about the words "mackerel" and "badger". Try this site to get many other such "tubewhacks". Even better, this site lists stations that are themselves tubewhacks of other stations. I'm sure myriads of challenges could be built around that concept...matthew dunderdale wrote: the station with no letters of mackerel and the station with no letters of badger,

I don't know why everyone's so obsessed over 'mackerel'. St. John's Wood is the only station without any of the letters of the word 'real' in it.

Re: the 5 X's
I suppose it's because "mackerel" is an unusual word, and it's one of the first "tube facts" that would have been plastered all over the internet when websites started to become popular. I remember using the web for the first time in 1992 or 1993, and I'm sure I read the "mackerel" fact back then at some point.all545londonbuses wrote:I don't know why everyone's so obsessed over 'mackerel'. It's the one that everyone remembers as default.
