yes, i thought that the stations with cross in the name would be put forward as "cross" can be shortened to X...

There's nothing particularly special about the words "mackerel" and "badger". Try this site to get many other such "tubewhacks". Even better, this site lists stations that are themselves tubewhacks of other stations. I suppose it's because "mackerel" is an unusual word, and it's one of the first "tube facts" that would have been plastered all over the internet when websites started to become popular.
