Ha!! Dudey, such cheek! The main reason we have conductors on our train is to make our passengers feel safer and act as a customer service person. Revenue Protection people worry about checking tickets :)

I've just spoken to one of the forum members on Facebook and I'm aware that some people may not be 100% confident about how the R15/20 will work, so here's a worked example based on what we already know about Saturday.

=====

As opposed to the usual lists of 15 stations, a random list of 20 stations has been generated with Bank as the starting station. The aim is still to visit 15 stations in the quickest time, so the extra stations allow you to remove five (harder to reach) stations from the list.

This is the list that I've just rustled up:

Bank
Willesden Junction
North Greenwich
Regent's Park
Piccadilly Circus
Aldgate East
Monument
Notting Hill Gate
Euston
Great Portland Street
Maida Vale
Marble Arch
Manor House
St. James's Park
Russell Square
Bond Street
Putney Bridge
Clapham South
Kentish Town
Swiss Cottage
Of the stations given, I would eliminate the ones in red, leaving me with a fairly easy set of predominantly Zone 1 stations to visit. As it would happen, this is a fairly easy set with a minimum of Zone 2 stations, but the challenge could be a lot harder if there were, say, 10 Z1 stations and 10 Z2 stations on the list.

Any questions, please do ask me!

In regards to the question about Tottenham Court Road..... to make it fair to everyone and give you all a wee bonus I can reveal that it is NOT one of the 20 stations randomly selected. I think that they are quite a good list of stations and it will be interesting to see which 5 are least popular.
One day I shall return!

Question: can we leave from Monument if it seems suitable?

I was going to pose 2 questions this morning

1) Can you drop "Bank" as one of your 5 stations and leave from anywhere?

2) And even is this wasn't a 15 from 20 what is the Bank/Monument ruling for a starting station?

We don't want any disputes now do we kiddies...

Under GWR rules they are two seperate stations. But are R15 rules as strict.

Greatkingrat, seeing as you invented the format here, what do you think about the starting station?

Well, I would say that you should be able to choose any 15 stations from the list, so if you want to miss out Bank that is fine.

As far as Bank/Monument is concerned, I would argue that this is very similar to the Paddington/Hammersmith/Edgware Road situation and that the stations should be counted as being two separate stations.

Seeing as they are considered to be two separate stations on Scriv's generator, what would happen if we considered Monument/Bank to be one station, and then Bank and Monument appeared separately on the list?

Isn't Bank the starting station? Surely that has to be a fixed starting point so shouldn't be dropped....

*as I can't attend, my opinion counts for nothing anyway :P*

I suspect that unless the Central, Northern and W&C are all simultaneously suspended on Saturday, everyone will choose to visit Bank anyway!

Not sure if The BERC is around today but I had the following from him via e-mail yesterday

"Seeing as it’s a twist round I would say that it is okay doing any 15 and you don’t have to start from Bank.
It’s going to mean that the substitute BERC will have to scrutinise everyones route very carefully to ensure that 15 stations have been visited.
I will post a bit later given this my BERC seal of approval."
