May I offer my thanks to the TOSA for organising a very enjoyable Games. Certain parts were especially enjoyable :) Commiserations to Kev who so nearly joined me on the overall winners podium.
Held some Alternative Challenge records for a long time.
Doesn't any more.

It really is quite an amazing medal table as each individual who appears on it either has a Gold medal, or more than one medal to their name.

As I mentioned to some people at the Random 15, and as I frequently say throughout any Olympic or Paralympic Games (but particularly when confronted with a medal table) I believe the International Olympic Committee should reform the medal table to a different system as it can be grossly unfair upon some nations, particularly those who win many silver or bronze medals but no gold medals. However as I said to the TOSA I admit that the degree to which the medal table is grossly unfair decreases pro rata with the number of events competed in, and hence it can only just be described as unfair when only 18 podium places were filled as happened at the Tube Olympics 2010.

Anyhow, for the purposes of self indulgence (and a slither of procrastination) I shall continue with my argument.

I believe the IOC (and to a lesser extent the TOSA) should reform the medal table so that competitors gain 3 points for a Gold medal, 2 for Silver and 1 for Bronze. Had my system had been in use the final medal table for the Tube Olympics 2010 would have looked as follows:

1. Al Brown 7
1. Kevin Brown 7

3. Peter Smyth 6
3. Antony Brown 6

5. Ryan Brown 5
5. Sam Cawley 5
5. Matthew Scrivin 5

8. Martin Hazel 4

9. Richard Donaldson 3
9. Stephanie Green* 3
9. Justin Irwin 3
9. Jonny Lyon 3
9. Jamie Brown 3
9. Tom Wood 3
9. Steve Wilson 3

I know some may say that it doesn't change much, but here's the Final Medal Table from Beijing 2008, with mine below. Compare and contrast!
Advance appolagies for the poor quality of the format, but I can't do any better with this method of word entry, especially as it's been copied from an Excel spreadsheet.

So what's the conclusion? While some countries do fall a long way, with the most being Bahrain, Cameroon, Panama and Tunisa each falling 11 places, these are negligible to some of the gains made such as Armenia's climb of 31 places, Chinese Taipei's 23, Sweden's 17 or Cuba's 16. It also favours the consistent performers rather than the anomalies, hence Jamaica fall 5 places or Mexico 8, while Turkey gain 9 and Azerbijan 7. Yet the formula (as simple as it is - a major benefit in itself) doesn't simply follow the total number of medals won but accounts for a hierarchy.

I'll let you dissect it for yourself, because as you can perhaps tell, it is a pet topic of mine, and other opinions would be greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Hang on, didn't you have the tube olympics in 2008? Wouldn't the champions from then be attempting to retain their titles at this year's tube olympics? I'm sure there was a full network challenge and an R15 in 2008 as well as this year.
You are correct Joe, we did also have the Full Network and R15 in the 2008 Games, but as these are Summer Games the defence of these titles will not be applicable until 2012 Summer Games.
One day I shall return!
