Hi Anthony, the above time still needs to be listed and here are some others all obtained from Vauxhall start at 1903hrs on 29th August

In reverse order;

3hrs 24 mins 03 secs, John Stark and friend Paul
3hrs 16 mins 26 secs, Kevin and Phil Brown
3hrs 00 mins 28 secs, Phil (Editorsfoot)
3hrs 00 mins 09 secs, Ric Brackenbury

And finally

2hrs 51 mins 36 secs, Antony and Jamie Brown... :D

Also I attempted it yesterday lunchtime. I started at Vauxhall and finished at Southwark, in a time of 2 hours, 52 minutes and 22 seconds.

If I hadn't done something extremely stupid at Baker Street, or something extremely unlikely hadn't happened there, I would probably have got something like 2 hours 44 minutes, since I was nearing the end of the attempt there.

sigh

No, not quite. You may recall that on that day, someone went under a train at West Hampstead, so the police were roaming around the Tube.
I was coming from Moorgate and wanted to go to Paddington (H/C), near the end of my attempt. The first train west was an Uxbridge train, followed by a Hammersmith and City. "I'll change at Baker Street," I thought. On arriving at Baker Street, the doors didn't open for three or four minutes, during which time that Hammersmith and City train had already been and gone. There were police swarming around that station, which perhaps explains that rare event!

I was very sad.

I have a chance of being higher than 63rd then! I will force myself to get sub-3h30m!

9 days time, and I'll be getting close to the end of my thrash around Zone 1. Should I have a good time, I'll be posting it here. God only knows I can't fail so much to get worse than 63rd...
Unofficial Z1 challenge, 15th September 2006, 1400 start - Result? 3h29m34s. Disgusting! I want a re-run!

Sorry to be a pain but I also had a time last week of 2:52'19", but there's no need to count both this one and the 2:52'22" time: they were both the same route!

Now that Zone 1 challenging is getting quite popular, do you think that the station staff of particular stations are getting used to the sight of madmen running off down the street to another station? I suppose that if you're a member of Underground staff, then you probably see quite a lot of strange things...

Well done Starkey another 3 seconds off your time, i think you're homing in on the record. I reckon the route myself and Dr Who did on the Vauxhall Z1 has potential to go even quicker as well (if I can keep the stopwatch running properly!) :)

I've updated my site with all sub 3 hour times for Zone 1

Hehe three seconds. That's exactly what I thought! The trouble is that at that rate, it'll take me years to get down to the record...

You never told us your route, Mr Dragon. Is it a Secret or are you willing to share (bits of) it?

Edit: I've just read another post where you've said, "My favourite part of the Z1 Lazy Boy wass [sic] the Bakerloo from Paddington to E&C but the rest of my route is TOP SECRET!" So that answers my question!

I thought that I revealed the route to those present in McDonalds, but if you were'nt listening then it's tough luck. I'm not going to reveal the full route in public until I break the record!! Only kidding, you're welcome to the full route if you like but seems like you've already got some pretty good routes yourself :)

I'm dying to know what the London Bridge staff thought when myself and my friend made a dash from the Northern Line to the Jubilee only to arrive back on the Jubilee line and run back to the Northen in about 5 minutes.

I'm trying to think of the most seemingly-pointless leg of a tube challenge that I've done. I think that it'd have to be the Sloane Square double-back. It involves going up the stairs/escalator from the westbound platform, past the ticket hall and ticket barriers, and then down the stairs to the eastbound platform. Obviously this is all in full view of station staff and other people loitering in the ticket hall.

It's made even more amusing when it's not just I who's doing it, but six others (as on 29th August) en masse!

Seems to figure in a lot of my routes ala last night.. The tricks off the trade are;
1) Gauge where the last eastbound train passed you to figure out if you have a chance of catching the next one. If it is already at the station when you pull in then forget it, not even Ric could cover the above mentioned route in time......

2) Just before you disembark on your left, have a look out the window on the right and see if you can spot any lights approaching...This was the scenario last night and we belted around and just made it....

By the way Antony when you next update I have a time to be added that might just get in the top 100...
