3h29m34s Martin Hazel and Julian Whitby (there we go bud!)

Bloody disgusted I am with that unfortunate time, next time I'll have a monster plan and improve dramatically!
Unofficial Z1 challenge, 15th September 2006, 1400 start - Result? 3h29m34s. Disgusting! I want a re-run!

OK, folks. I owe you an apology.

I set up all these useful threads and then buggered off into oblivion.

I'm afraid I will have to pass on the editing duties of the thread to someone else, as I may not even have the Internet for a month once I go to Canterbury.

Tubeguru, please feel free to edit the post or change its owner or ANYTHING... or, even better, someone else should just create a new Top Times thread that can actually be updated!

Hi, just to say that Friday night was good fun - thanks to the organisers, and it was fun only planning the route on the second train - many thanks to Starkey for planning most of it for me!

I actually didn't think it was a great run, so I was surprised to get such a good time. In fact, I think I've come up with a not too different route which may be better than the route I got my 'record' with. I think that *finishing* at Vauxhall might be faster than starting there, and I've thought about where I really want to start and worked it out from there. Lots of running though :(

And I've just seen Soup Dragon's Zone 1 site - I badly need to update my website!

Finally, as so many people have now had a go at Z1, why not slim down the list? Perhaps everyone's top two/three times, or only your best time on a particular route? It just seems to be getting a bit too big to handle.

I've tried to keep all the sub 3 hour times up to dtae on my site, here is the current list Including the new record set by Starkey on Friday. I've also applied the same criteria to HÃ¥kan & Patrick's time and also Ollie & Sam's time as I believe they could all have reset their watches on departure Southwark for an official Z1 time. I've not included Peter Smythe or Senji as I'm not sure of their departure points from Westminster.

If you're aware of any sub 3 hour times missing from the list please let me know.

01 2:43:50 John Stark (Z1C Day 18-05-2007)

Zeibura, do you know if Senji also departed Eastbound on the Jubiee?
Otherwise this might not be the case? I know for a fact that you and the Swedes did because I can remeber seeing you in our carriage, but I can't recall what Senji did.

I checked TFL at 17:00 today and noticed there was good service on all lines so decided it was a good idea to nip out and try a quick Z1. Jamie was able to join me so we set off from Feltham to Vauxhall.

We were going to try a Southwark start but unfortunately this would have meant passing through Cannon Street after 21:00, so in the end we stuck with a Vauxhall start.

Things went reasonably well with good connections at Victoria, Sloane Square & Liverpool Street. During the evening we had a couple of sexy changes but generally connections were around 2-3 minutes in most cases. The worst connections being a 7 minute wait for an H&C to Paddington and then a 5 minute wait at Bayswater for a Circle Line (we wanted District) so had to double back at Glous Rd to Earls Ct.

I possibly had my blondest ever moment on a Z1, not wanting to wait 7 minutes for the H&C we decided to skip lines at Baker Street and enter Paddington on the Bakerloo. We literally ran straight onto a Bakerloo train, the idea being that we could now get into Paddington and hopefully get an H&C out quicker than 7 minutes. So far so good. Now for my moment of complete madness, when we got to Edgware Road (Bakerloo) I said it would be a great idea to run to Edgware Road (H&C) because we would still have time to catch the train that was previously a 7 minute wait, of course we did make it and now it was only a 3 minute wait. So what had we actually gained? Nothing was the answer because we would now pass through Edgware Road & Marylebone again. In the end this did not cost us anything though as we did not pass an Eastbound H&C as we travelled towards Paddington so all we had wasted was the energy of two pointless runs

Anyway apart from all this kerfuffle the rest of the evening went very well and we finished in a new PB of 2h 49m 17m (Finished at Russell Square)

So the updated list for sub 3-hours now reads:

01 2:43:50 John Stark (Z1C Day 18-05-2007)
02 2:45:11 Ric Brackenbury
03 2:49:17 Antony & Jamie Brown (05-06-07)
04 2:51:36 Antony & Jamie Brown (Vauxhall Z1 29.08.06)
05 2:51:54 David Scard, Ric Brakenbury & Andrew Baker (Z1C 2006)
06 2:52:19 John Stark
07 2:52:22 John Stark
08 2:52:47 Anthony Smith
09 2:55:50 Steve Paull (Z1C 2004)
10 2:56:20 Anthony Smith, Ed?
11 2:56:35 John Stark
12 2:56:39 Ewan Spence & Tom Reynolds (Z1C 2004)
13 2:56:51 Håkan Wolgé & Patrick Sillén (Z1C 2005)
14 2:57:05 Peter Smythe & Erin Faulkner (Z1C 2005)
15 2:57:24 Geoff Marshall & Neil Blake (Z1C 2005)
16 2:58:37 Håkan Wolgé, Patrick Sillén & Johan Idh
17 2:58:50 Håkan Wolgé & Patrick Sillén (Z1C 2007)
17 2:58:50 Ollie Lewisohn & Sam Robinson (Z1C 2007)
17 2:58:50 Jonathan (Senji) Amery (Z1C 2007)
20 2:59:02 Damian Cook
21 2:59:05 Anthony Smith
22 2:59:16 Ric Brackenbury
23 2:59:19 Adham Fisher (Z1C 2004)

Flipping good work you two; if you'd been a minute quicker or so at Moorgate, you might have made the previous Hammersmith and City and knocked eight minutes off your time (and two minutes off the record)! Let me know if you're going to do one after the 13th.

Thanks Starkey

We reckon that this route could have potential for sub 2h40m. All it needs is a slightly better H&C and getting a District line into Earls Court. Having to do a Gloucs Rd double back certainly cost us a couple of minutes as well.

Are you back at home after the 13th then, is it the start of your Summer hols?

All times recorded should appear in the overall list, it just hasn't been updated for some time now. So I've tried to keep tabs of all sub 3 hour times both here and on my own site. Good luck with the attempt and hopefully you can join the sub 3 hour club, it's like breaking the 4 minute mile. :)

Dave Gorman is indeed "Genius" I remember his TV show a couple of years back when he was trying to track down other Dave Gormans around the world. Any spare tickets for the show at all???
