Adding to the sensible comments made by Matt & Hakan, I would also say that whilst trying to raise the profile of Tube Challenging we don't want 100 people turning up on the day as this would make the challenge very difficult to manage. To that end we should ask for entrants to confirm their wish to participate by email or PM to the organisers, and not to confirm the meeting point in public at all (only by email or PM back to the entrants).

In terms of numbers I think we should restrict to a maximum of 50/60 people, even with this number it would be wise to consider setting people of in two different groups (Say 10 minutes apart). With last years event I was very concerned with the number of people rushing through tunnels in the first couple of line changes and you could see that some commuters looked very concerned with 20+ people rushing toward them, not only this but from a health & safety point of view.

Yes, Soup Dragon, I'll take the staggered start into consideration when formulating the rules...

Good to get feedback on this, although I wonder why many of you didn't raise these concerns when I first sought opinion on letting selected media outlets know about our little get-together.

I would like to see the challenge community grow, although I'm not really sure why. I suppose I enjoy the competition and meeting new people.

How many people will the pub accommodate at most?

Hey Ollie, don't take it the wrong way, I think that will still need to try and get media coverage for the event and to raise the profile of Tube Challenging. What we have to be careful to avoid within that coverage is giving full details of when and where the challenge will take place as this might lead to mass numbers turning up on the day unannounced and jeopordising the whole event. Any coverage we do get should just guide people to this site where they we be able to get further information and confirm their planned participation.

Perhaps Moley can set up a Sticky under Alternative Challenge Chat (or a completely seperate section) "Zone 1 Challenge 2008 - How to Enter" (or something similar), which will then guide people towards the event organisers and how they can register their interest.

I'm not taking it personally, don't worry about that :P

I suppose each extra step required to find out all the necessary information will logarithmically decrease the number of extra participants. It depends how far we want to take it.

might i suggest someone gets in touch with annie mole close to the time and ask if she would mind mentioning it on her blog? it was done last year and obviously we didn't end up with incredible numbers, but i think some people came along from it. it's media but on a pretty specialist scale, non?

Good ideas, everyone. I reckon this event will be top quality this year, and it's a damn shame I can't come along because I'd really like to be there! Good choice of pub too.

The logo is great. It's simple and effective.

If you're still open to suggestions, you could use blue #003399 and red #CC0033, perhaps, for a darker but more authentic colour scheme that would match the official roundel's colours more closely.

Also, maybe make the 'arrow' on the blue bit point right instead of left, to give more of an impression of going forward rather than back, and maybe cut a triangle into the 'back' of the arrow to match the front.

It's really good as it is, though, if you don't want to change it for whatever reason!

Interesting, you almost hit the official web colours #000099 and #CC3333 or in full RGB (for electronic documents I assume) RGB(0,25,168) and RGB(220,36,31).

It's all here

How else did you think we designed the TShirt displayed on pg 199 in the Guinness World Records book? I admit we used the RGB colours and not a print adjusted one like CMYK (since we used inkjet transfer).

There it is, the sneaky hiding PDF file! I was looking for that. Thank you, Hakan.

I was going by hexadecimal values similar to the Pantone colours as found on some third party web site. I thought they seemed a bit dark when I tried them on the screen.

The colours you quote should surely be the ones used, then!

I just used the pipette tool on an existing picture of the roundel, I didn't check it for authenticity.

Time for another tweak, perhaps.

Just a thought, with the Tube Challenge publicity going on this week on BBC Three Counties Radio, would it be an idea on the idea to publicise this Z1 event as a sort of entry-level thing to offer the interested listeners? Perhaps on the challenge day itself this Friday this site and the Z1 Day could be slipped into one of the broadcasts they're going to be doing?

Just wanted to float the idea as it's ulitmately up to the organisers if you'd like that much publicity, although i doubt it'd add more than a handful of competitors, and not the the swathes of people that some are fearing.

I still think we must not advertise any kind of open event! Mentioning that it will happen, but without explicit references to time and place would be fine, but a bit pointless perhaps... (or perhaps a few will find this forum and that would be ok).

Just to make sure we don't get banned or anything, I'll take registration through PM on this forum (a couple of weeks in advance and onwards) and keep the actual gathering point kind of secret!

I concur. You should publicise the occurrence of the event, and maybe the date, if not too obviously, but keep the details secret.

I will ask Lorna if she can mention it on Friday and give out the forum address. It should be something vague along the lines of:
"If you would like to have a go at TC the annual Z1 takes place in May, details can be found on the tubechallenge.com website"

Yep, that's the appropriate level of publicity!
