Re: Photo Quiz 14.17
These are starting to get a bit weird now. Are you a bit short of photos?

The station was St John's Wood, nearest to the Abbey Road studios and foot crossing famously used by the Beatles, and given listed status recently.

Re: Photo Quiz 14.17 (now finished)
Speaking as a second year student of Town and Regional Planning, I'll add that it is pretty potty - the local authority has now set a precedent that means that a replica can be listed as well as the original. While I agree with the "cultural" reasons for listing (also quite a precedent as it's such recent culture), it's caused quite some uproar amongst the Town Planning community. This is because the precedent set is quite a dangerous one as it is now possible for the owner of a property to destroy the original historical structure and replace it with a replica - which doesn't have to even be on the same location! However this "dangerous precedent" should only affect other post war cultural structures - all structures over 150 years are automatically considered for listing and the listing system has also been very effective at capturing all of the other pre war buildings "of note", simply as so many were destroyed in the war meaning that many of the remainders from this time are listed for their uniqueness or their architectural merit.jamesthegill wrote:You mean because it's not even the original one?RichieG wrote:Please tell me other people here see the stupidity that the zebra crossing is now listed?
The problem lies with other cultural buildings which may also have been missed off, demolished and replaced with a similar "replica" - however with 373,000 listed structures in England and Wales alone this looks unlikely to happen too many times. After all, perhaps it is the Town Planners and/or the politicians fault that they weren't listed before they were demolished in the first place - only time will tell.

Excuse me a moment...
IT IS JUST A F**KING ZEBRA CROSSING GET OVER IT
(admittedly, 'getting over it' is the whole point of zebra crossings, but I'll let that one pass for now...)
