Photo Quiz 10.06 (closed)

Post by tangy »

Quite a seasonal one this week, featuring plenty of trees and leaves. Maybe there are some leaves on the line! As explained in the previous quiz I have indeed upped the difficulty rating a bit.

Expiry: 20:00 hours on Monday 7th December 2009. Is that clear?

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

Pfft yeah right :P

This one is EASY. I passed this station last month when I went to the remembrance service in St Pauls :)

This is the Priory Gardens entrance of Highgate with the disused high level platforms above and the A1 Archway Road high up on the embankment.

The green light shines for:
--garion24wales
--starkey
--Edgemaster
--Lancaster Gate
--jbom1
--barrykas
--greatkingrat
--mps247

The red light stopped:
--No one. Drat you...

This quiz now terminates here... but there will be another in a few minutes.

So how did you manage to go from Cardiff to St Pauls via Highgate?

Wouldn't it be cheaper, then, for London Underground to run this station set-up, rather than an underground one?

It is a great pity that the Second World War got in the way of the full planned Northern line extensions. Of course, had everything got built, Highgate station would have had low-level platforms (i.e. the current tube platforms) for the line up from Camden Town plus high-level platforms for trains from Moorgate and Finsbury Park. One could then have travelled on to High Barnet, Edgware and Bushey Heath. Had all of the extensions been constructed, Tube Challenge route planning would have been a little different! Alas, pretty much all that is left is quite a pleasant country walk along the trackbed from Finsbury Park to Highgate.

Well the previous day, I travelled up to Derby to stay at my dad's house for the night. After getting up at 4am :(, we travelled down into London. We also passed Archway, Highbury and Islington, Upper Holloway, Holloway Road and Old Street stations en route, following the A1 for most of the way into the centre. It was a good day though to be honest...but it was a bit hard trying not to nod off during the Archbishop's speech with a camera looking in my direction...

I'd forgotten about Alexandra Palace!

However, had the Northern line been extended to Alexandra Palace, it would have provided an interesting Tube Challenge run to Wood Green station on the Piccadilly line - downhill pretty much all of the way!

(Highgate to Alexandra Palace, along the old trackbed, is also a pleasant walk).

I wanted to say Highgate but I didn't know of this entrance so that's what stopped me.
