Yes, there's always that uncouth method of identifiying a station but it's nice when you can narrow it down to certain areas based on a small clue.

The station, as many of you eventually worked out, was Buckhurst Hill.

Those who got it:
garion24wales
mullardo
Edgemaster (who also found http://www.flickr.com/photos/bonez007/3739730999/)
tangy (who used Sherlock Holmes esque powers of deduction)
Sam (who didn't, and settled for getting me drunk)
Lancaster Gate
tubeguru
Steeevooo
jbom

Them what didn't:
mps247 (Chalfont & Latimer)
barrykas (Theydon Bois)
Dr Who (Roding Valley)
Starkey7 (Debden)
Holder of the slowest recorded 274 attempt: 4 months, 1 day, 9 hours, 17 minutes, 32 seconds.

I saw the reservoir, and just automatically thought that it was somewhere on the Northern end of the Victoria line. Couldn't figure it out, and spent ages looking for other reservoirs near a tube station, unfortunately I missed Buckhurst Hill, despite looking at the A-Z for that region.

Still I maintain my near perfect record of getting it right when I do enter, even if is an irritating near miss!

The area of yellowish/greenish land to the NW of the water on the map is the same shape as the area to the NW of Buckhurst Hill.

The "local area map" shown in photo gave me two very useful clues, these together with extensive local knowledge of the areas concerned (in which I thought the station might be)gave my the answer. Two other pieces of the photo also helped me whittle down the poosibilities.

Here is the reply that I sent to James:
Firstly, the taxi. No London/TfL taxi or minicab has that kind of taxi sign on its roof, indicating (with a degree of certainty) it is a station that lies beyond the Greater London county boundary (not necassarily outside the zones). This can only be the Met. north of Moor Park, the eastern end of the Central line or the NLR north of Hatch End.

Can immediately rule out the latter as there is only a LU roundel dispalyed on the post on the street. I then started to look for clues on the "local area map" displayed. I could faintly see the path of the railway as running north-south, which eliminates the Met. line, as no part of the Met. geographically goes north- south. This means it has to be one of the stations on the eastern end of the Central line.

Due to the path of the railway line going north-south this eliminates Roding Valley, Grange Hill and Debden from the search as these stations lie east-west. I will also eliminate Loughton and Epping as I know what these stations look like. This leaves Theydon Bois and Buckhurst Hill.

Further study of the "local area map" and I noted the road network in the area and how the roads seem to meet in a crossroads at/near the Tube station. I know Theydon Bois doesn't have this type of road layout and that Buckhurst Hill does.

Also noted the wording on the top of the local area map poster and how the last two words appear to be one long word followed by a short one, indicating Buckhurst Hill.

Therefore I can definately say, without doubt you are at BUCKHURST HILL.

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

All right Sherlock, but what if it had been an unlicensed minicab?

Big blue blob + N/S ness of railway (and a map) was all I needed.

(Oh, and then confirmed with inverse photo of the station)
